Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Nuff said.

Well, if you want softer ska, then go with Streetlight Manifesto or Catch 22.

Sort of. Check it out here. http://www.myspace.c...mightybosstones Listen to "The impression that I get". I'm sure you've heard that song before. That is pure Ska.

Popular bands such as Rancid did apply some Ska elements to their music.

Ska is basically punk with reggae.

Sublime
Let the pretend take over
And that season be the first
Shadows we're in become us
So we set up interspersed
Between here and away
Become your space every day

Ska originating in Jamaica during the 1950s pre-dates punk and reggae.

First (popular) mention of reggae is Toots and the Maytals song in 1968 with Do the Reggay.

Strangely enough Ska was very popular in the early 70s with British Skinheads - who were otherwise a rather racist bunch.

For modern Ska try Fishbone very hyper stuff.
Life is like a musical by Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Very popular and not as bad as some would have you believe. That is, unspeakably awful but mercifully brief.

Ska has come about in three waves in distinct areas: First - Jamaica in the 50s, Second - England (aka 2 Tone) in the 70s, and Third - U.S. in the 80s to present.

I'm just gonna rattle off some third-wave ska bands, which is likely what you're after:

Let's Go Bowling
The Toasters
Mustard Plug
Reel Big Fish
Goldfinger
The Aquabats
Skankin' Pickle
Voodoo Glow Skulls
The Pietasters
The Scofflaws
Dance Hall Crashers
Mad Caddies
Streetlight Manifesto
Operation Ivy
Bim Skala Bim
Fender Telecaster player
