So I am learnig the song breath by Breaking Benjamin so my band can cover it for our first gig and I am not sure exactly how to tune to drop Bb. I know it may sound stupid considering I have been playing for two and a half years now but I am clueless and i really need to learn this song. I mean I know that I am going to drop the B string somewhat lower but Im not sure what note it needs to go to or what. Please explain.
Thanks in advance.

I recommend, if you haven't thought of this, that you get yourself som thick strings, before tuning this low.

My advise is to buy a 7 strings set, and throw out the "little e".

And then, just if you didn't know, Drop B Tuning is often used by new metal bands these days.
And in Drop B, you can still play the basic chords, there's just a little more "kick" in 'em.

Good luck

that's a clever trick. I would have never thought of buying a 7string set.

Tune half step lower than Drop C.
Dimebag used this tuning with Damageplan.
Not a big fan though, always sounds muddy no matter how ya
eq it.
On the other hand if u play the tuning clean with some chorus
or something it sounds pretty friggin cool.
Oh and if you are in opposition to 7 strings there are always
baritone guitars (Static X i think, Queens of the Stonage maybe, I dont know)
Play 'till your fingers bleed then play some more

I'm not familiar with the song... if it's really high you just tune to drop d and capo at the 8th fret. If it's really low then you'll need a set of .13-.56's or substitute a bass string for your low E. Lower range tones won't work on a standard lighter gauge set because the string tension just isn't there to give you any kind of tone.
Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.
