i've seen this done on other forums, so i figured i would bring it up here... why not make it so threads with suggestive or offensive material can be flagged as such by, say, moderators. make it so only registered users can view the topic, and a little triangular exclamation point thingy (?) next to the title to warn people of such material being in the thread. like i said, i've seen this done in other places and it seems to work perfectly fine. that's not to mean that all of a sudden posting naked pictures or anything of the sort would become acceptable, but if a link/picture/video in the thread were to be deemed slightly inappropriate, it could be dealt with in a sensible manner rather than just getting rid of it because someone might be offended by it.

thoughts?

If it's easy enough to set a flagging system up as you described, then yeah, why not? It can't hurt to try it out. I'm assuming you made this thread with the "pet hates" thread in discussion in mind. As far as that goes, I think Major was right to disable the link though. That was some pretty fucked up shit.

Not to hijack this, but I also saw Bungles thread, which slated him for doing so. It got closed before I got a chance to reply. I still fail to see what it actually is that makes Bungle a better mod than Major.

yeah i think that's a discussion best left for other places.

anyways, i don't know how easy it is to do, but i know i've seen it done in several other forums. i just get slightly annoyed with the level of whining GTU has achieved in regards to petty tattle-tailing and crybaby syndrome every time someone does/says something slightly offensive. i know other people feel this way too, they just don't say anything, which is why i'm saying it now.

here's an example from another forum of what i mean:

on the left is the screenshot of the actual forum, note the little yellow triangles with exclamation points. when clicked, nothing loads on the page but the box on the right if you are not logged in as a registered user. on that forum, threads like such can be flagged by the thread poster or a forum moderator.

The topic that's second to last is exactly the type of content that is frowned upon on these forums. The point is, even with a disclaimer, the content is easily available to registered members aged 13 and up. It does nothing to protect "children" from inappropriate content for a "family" website.

Basically, you're saying just as long as you have a sign saying "Do not look if you get offended" you can get away with posting anything from sexually explicit material to racial material and gore, and that's not so.

Suffice it to say, if the moderators/owner does not want it, it does not fly here, and if you want to discuss those matters, there are plenty of other forums, such as the one you mentioned, that you can discuss those matters at. GTU/GZ is not the place for them.

Those are my opinions and I believe any of the other moderators here can agree.

End of discussion really, huh?

EDIT: To be honest, I think most of the mods to a great job. And the mods that got me banned a for a while some time ago, I thank them, because they got me to realize what kind of a little sh@t I was on the internet, that I am not in real life.

i was using that picture of the forum as an example, not saying we should be able to post hairy beavers.

Hey, I just noticed that you joined GTU on my birthday... tongue.gif

Well then that feature is already in the forums, and also already in even every post. Look at this post, there is an exclamation point next to this post. Does the same thing really.
