The idea was actually born in that topic in recording where a related issue was discussed:

If the Recorded and Live Sound forum was merged to the Songwriting forum, we'd get some kind of new super forum where ALL the aspects of songwriting and recording could be available in the same forum/topic instead of remaining separate as we do now.
This would end that old controversy that feedback on all original compositions (and covers) shouldn't be posted in recording if it's about the song itself not the quality of the recording but yet it is still posted and commented there instead of the songwriting forum. My guess is if this merger doesn't happen things won't change, stuff will continue to be posted in the wrong forum.
Computer Hardware/Software Issues forum could handle Q&A on sound quality what's the best software to use for recording ect as well as all the current topics. The idea sounds good to me, better have one big healthy forum than 2 small stagnant ones. If that idea was okayed the songwriting forum would need renaming some suggestions have been posted in the link above.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure. What about people who want to record a cover? If the forum is to deal with songwriting as well as recording, putting a recorded cover in there may get a lot of responses saying that the forum is for songwriting. I can see why the idea might work, and apart this point I think it's a good idea, but maybe you'd want to mention somewhere under the forum title that covers can be included.

Yeah (...) sure covers have always been posted in recording not songwriting but if we merge the two forums into a bigger forum it would be best to say in that particular field that covers are also included. That forum would be about the CRAFT of songwriting in general, although songwriters like to interpret other people's songs.
Good point. Thanks for the input Neil.
