I've asked this before but this time I've actually got the money to go and buy it this time smile.gif.

I'm looking for an acoustic (not fussed about electrics) in the £200-300 price range ($400-600) so can anyone recommend anything to try out (should be going to my local guitar shop soon)

I was looking at the Epiphones but they seem to vary in quality quite alot. I also tried looking around for an Alvarez, but they seem to be hard to get hold of in the UK w/o shipping across the pond. I'm also looking for something with a warmer, rounder sound, more suited to chording.

Cheers.

I am a big fan of ovations myself, but I only reccomend them if you plan on plugging them in

I was looking in a guitar shop today, and I played a Yamaha FG720. A nice guitar and within your price range. It has a rich warm sound to it, and the factory setup is pretty decent too.

At Christmastime my neighbor asked me to pick out an acoustic guitar for his son that was the best I thought he could get for no more than $250. I went to Guitar Center and played about a dozen guitars there. I picked out the Yamaha FG700-SB. (Probably almost identical to what you're talking about.) It was a sunburst (-SB) which added on a few dollars. It was $249.99.

I tried out some Ibanezes and the Yamaha FG720 & 750. They were nice but not quite what I wanted.

I tried out a Simon & Patrick SP6 with a solid cedar top and loved it. It's hand built in Canada and it had a nice rich tone. I also liked thew way the guitar was finished, totally plain with a rough finish, it's not much to look at but I kinda like the look it has.

Any thoughts on the guitar before I buy it?

EDIT: After a bit of research they seem to be owned by Godin and are pretty similar to seagulls in terms of build quality.

I'd sure try out a cedar top Seagull before you decide.
