Just wondered if anybody had heard of this before, or whether or not it could be a potential problem.
I recently bought a rosewood Gibson J45, and I was looking at the serial number, just to take a note of it.
I copied down the serial number from the orange Gibson label inside the soundhole. BUT, the serial number is also inset into the back of the headstock on the guitar itself, and that serial number is different by one digit. It would appear that the person who typed out the serial number for the orange label, misread the one on the headstock. Apparantly he/she read a 3 as a 9.
Now, the orange label I am assuming forms a part of the guarantee, since it says something to the effect " this guitar No : blah blah blah...is guaranteed against faulty materials, workmanship etc. ". In my case this refers to another guitar, and presumably some other owner, has my orange label inside their guitar.
Just thinking that if I ever wanted to sell the guitar ( highly unlikely, but who knows what the future holds ) would this affect the value, or put off any potential purchaser for any reason.
While writing this, I am imagining how incredible it would be if I ever discovered the label intended for my guitar inside another J45, by chance. Maybe even someone reading this has my label !. In which case I can feel a song brewing. Like something out of fact or fiction
