I was thinking about starting a log book to keep in the case with the guitar. The idea would be to record events in the log book as a kind of historical document to accompany the guitar on its journey through life. I was thinking of including things like the date of manufacture, when and where it was first bought, and by whom. History of things like modifications, and the names of any luthiers involved with dates. History of dings and scratches etc, repairs, string experiments etc, etc, etc.
I think this would be a great thing to have with a guitar, especially if bought used, but as I have no intention of ever selling mine, it would be a fantastic thing for my children to have with the guitar when it eventually gets passed to them. A full history of the guitar, its owners, gig history, history of recordings made with it etc. Wouldn't that be cool !

Has anybody ever done this ?, or perhaps bought a used guitar with a log book similar to the above ?. If so, what kind of things were recorded in the document ?. And if you've never come across anything like this, what kind of things would you like to see recorded in the log, and what would you include yourself ?

I've never done it myself. Once I bought a guitar that had a little bit of information in a manilla folder in the bottom of the case. Like original receipt and hang-tags, a couple of old string-packs he'd used, a couple of set-lists, some lyrics on the back of an old electric-bill envelope, receipts for a couple of minor repairs he'd had done over the years (re-fret and bridge re-glue) and a couple of other things. It was sort of interesting to me to look at it, to try to understand the guy who owned it before me a little bit (It seemed like he liked Merle Travis! laugh.gif).

It might be interesting for whoever gets your guitar next, whether it's one of your kids or whoever. (After you're dead an' gone!)
Un-plugged is not the same as
