I have a Dean Razor NT and pulled up the website to show a friend what bass I had. I bought this bass used from a music store but it's in great condition. When I read the specs:

Dean Razor NT Quilt Top 4-String Electric Bass Guitar
The neck-thru Razor NT4 is the most comfortable, well balanced and easiest bass to play on the market. Clarity of tone, unbelievably low action and crystal clear glassy tones make the Razor the bass many players are switching to from conventional, heavier basses. A routed control cavity further enhances the Razor's streamlined body and stunning looks. Features include a quilt maple top, active electronics, and gold hardware including Grover tuners.

Specifications

Quilt Maple Top

Alder Body

34 in. Scale & 1-1/2 in. Nut

Grover Tuners

Gold Hardware

Dean 3D Preamp

Dean Session Pickups

Neck Thru Construction

Maple & Walnut Neck

Rosewood Fingerboard

Abalone Dot Inlays

24 Frets

I see that it says, ACTIVE ELECTRONICS. Does this mean I have a battery in this sucker running the pickups? I've had it for 5 years, and never looked for a battery or anything. It works when I plug in.

It's probably not running the pickups, just the pre-amp which probably isn't doing anything. I'd definitely open that sucker up and see what's up with the battery. They can get messed up if they're in there too long.

No luckily it didn't leak. Wasn't an alkaline...just a heavy duty chinese LOL. Yeah it does cound a ton better although I still really am not a bass player..

I don't like the pickups though. They seem like they are active single coils. They have a seperate VOL knob for each pickup and both pickups share the same BASS MID TREBLE controls. There is also no pickup selection switch so they are both ON all the time dry.gif
If I don't have the VOL knobs perfectly even, I get noise. Not sure if it is poor electronics (my first guess) or just bad pickups. I don't play bass enough though to justify new pups.

Set one volume at 0 and one at 10. Viola selection switch
Let the pretend take over
And that season be the first
Shadows we're in become us
So we set up interspersed
Between here and away

I know...that's why I don't own any DEAN guitars. I'm not a bass player. I'll never spend the kind of $$$ on a bass that I would on a guitar. In your opinion, what would be a top of the line Bass?
