do any of you guys know, off the tops of your heads, which/if any can run as a midi slave device? so i could link it up with my old one giving me a theoretical new 16 track machine

ps it would only really have to be able to run to my original machines tempo and spp markers

edit: nevermind im thinking about getting a yamaha aw1600 instead, seems a big step (for me), up in terms of features, than chaining 2 entry level machines.

if you get a mixing desk and cubase sl , it will be cheaper and better than any 16 track .
unlimited midi files , lots of plugins etc
remember that i love you - no matter what i say

thks for the reply noodle, while i know your right i still kinda like the boundarys of a "computerless" studio (allthough theres proccessing chips in nearly everyting ive got). i think the fact that im stuck to using just the couple of fx and the hand full of sounds i own (and could use in a live situation, coz thats hopefully the next step for me) and the way that i record them gives me an identity that if you loose me on a comp i just wouldnt get, ive not the polished shine of a producer (yet) so i end up making a sketch pad style of song based on me messing around rather than knowing roughly what i want before hand and getting out a cloth and a can of pledge (who knows, i could easily be on the wrong side of the art version of nature verses nurture debate). i think its often too easy for the musically enriched (people like us, well anyone who listens too alot of music really) to forget how we once heard music and progress a kind of tunnel vision that leads to creating music thats only appealing to those as educated as yourself. i think im mostly influenced by indie/rock for my song writing style, but like a desperate idiot at the feet of a beautiful girl i want to be 'pop'ular too. soz for the rant m8 i know your just giving good advice and i just wanted to explain how i feel (i know how wierd it makes me sound, im half expecting folks to point and shout 'witch')

Ilike my Fostex MR-8 for recording live. It does allow for midi control but I couldn't reccomend it in good faith for your application.
Can't beat it for recording on open mic nights though.
Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.
