Hi,

When I plug my guitar into the HI-Z instrument on my mixer, I can record it with the pickup volumes all the way up, the gain on the channel all the way up, and the channel volume most of the way up. It comes in kind of quiet, but clean.

When I go through the DI box the signal is much hotter, but if I turn the pickup volumes high then it distorts.

Am I doing something wrong? I thought that DI boxes don't actually add any gain.

And if I'm doing it right, what's the better way to record - with the DI box or not? I'd assume that the hotter the signal coming out of the guitar the better, so don't use the DI box. But then again, when I don't use it, it comes out of the mixer faint..

Thanks a lot!

(The mixer is a tapco 6306, the DI box a behringer ultra-g, and the pickups are seymour duncan SH-2N (Jazz) and SH-1B (59))
