Hey guys!!

Been a while since last I visited (been fairly busy!), but anywho...wanted to pass this along to you folks....

I have a great gig rig (the Svt4Pro and the 6X10HLF cab) but I have noticed that in my "advanced" years, it has been getting a bit "much" to lug to practice once a week. The whole rig weighs in at around 185 lbs and moving it up and down stairs has become a major hassle!

I finally decided that I HAD to switch to a combo setup (for practice only) and visited my local GC to check out what they had....well, I tried out Ampeg (the 2X10 and 1X15 combos) nice but a little heavy...next I tried out the Line 6 15 combo (as memory recalls around 350 watts) and still fairly heavy, tried out the GK stuff (ughh...) and finally tried out the MarkBass gear. I had heard many good things about it, but heard that it was a "tad" pricey....

Well, once played, I left with the "little Mark II/combo head"....it's a VERY small cabinet with one 12 and 500 watts. All I can say is WHOOA!!! I have never beenso surprised im my old life!!! 13 lbs of pure HEAVEN!!!

Needless to say, I left the store with one! My GC says that they can't come down from the price ($869.00) but they threw in some "sweetners" like 3 sets of DR highbeams and an ampstand.....all in all, about $125 "discount" without actually "discounting" the amp.

Guys....if you are ever in the market for a ridiculously light-weight but BIG sounding combo, I HIGHLY urge you to check out the MarkBass gear....you won't be sorry!!

Hand-Made in Italy and light as a feather, you can literally throw it in the back of your car and off you go!!

Anyway, just for what it's worth!

Just 13 lbs you say? For a 500 watts combo? I'm actually speechless...

Incredible that such a little package delivers so much power. But now that you have tried it extensivelly (well i guess you did) how does it sound? Cause ultimatly that's what really matter isn't it?

I checked out the "suitcase" and that would be great in my truck. Doesn't take too much place and it's not too loud, plus there is the earphone jack so i wouldn't bother anyone when stopping in a truckstop. Any idea on it's price?

Well, I haven't STOPPED using it since I got it! It is literally incredible that so much power and sound could be packed in such a small, lightweight package.

To be honest, I have considered (although I won't) trading in my Ampeg gear for a "regular" stack of markbass gear. They sound THAT good. However, I will keep the "big rig" for gigs and carry this back and forth for practice. The guys in the band were completely blown away that such a small amp could put out that much BASS.....

As to price. They ARE NOT cheap. They are handmade in Italy and inported to the US. Mine (the 1X12) lists for $869 and GC won't budge on the price. I know, I am fairly good friends with the store manager and according to him, their corporate offices won't allow them to. However, you CAN get them to throw in some "extras", i.e., strings and the like.

I checked on Ebay and, at least when I looked, there were none to be had. So there you go...

Back to the sound.....simply amazing! I still have a hard time believing that this amp is SS...I mean you can contour it to sound like any great tube amp and it ACTUALLY sounds like a tube amp.....go figure. But the real proof in the pudding for me is the power. FOr a small package (again, 30 pounds) this amp SCREAMS! It actually shakes the floor when I'm playing it.

As to the smaller "briefcase" model.....you got it right! It would be PERFECT for a trucker! It's about the size of a briefcase (a little thicker) but sounds great! You could throw your P-Bass and amp in the bunk and "have at it" anytime you stopped! But again, not cheap.....if memory serves, around $650 at GC.....

Hope this helps a little!!

check out phil jones stuff to, he has a suitcase style amp and it's a big sounding amp. I've played through the cube one with 4 5'''s and it was pretty loud to.

As a follow-up to the original post and, after extensively using the MarkBass CMD 121P for some time now (even a small gig) I can tell you, without reservation, that the "hype" about MarkBass is absouletly TRUE!! They are IMO some of the best sounding rigs out there today!

Additonally I would like to recommend these folks to any of you guys who might need a cover to "protect" your Amp and Cabinet investment:

I have purchased covers for both my Ampeg and MarkBass equipment and they make great covers! Reasonable, too!

i'm looking in to a combo too. would you recommend one for small gigs, for instance, pizza shops and bars? the guitarist has a half stack, and even this model is more than i'd like to spend.
