Well with the new Guitar World I bought I was real disappointed with it. They have done way standard notation and song analyzing with modes and techniques used. I wished I could make a video of me playing and this explaining this. I don't know how to post in the lessons forum so I decided to use this thread until I get a video camera this year some time soon. I want to see people learn theory not just coping tabs. Anyone can do that. This tab has some errors I got it off Ultimate Guitar tabs I did some correcting but not all of it because it is closer than the the latest Guitar World Tab sad.gif so this why I chose this song. I welcome requests and if a backing track is needed I have one or a example is needed I will provided one.
Sincerely Tim

CODE
Metallica- Ride the Lightning Solo off the album Ride the Lightning
   Key of E minor
The tapping part is 32 sec notes very fast. The general feel is minor of the
   solo.

This part is in E Dorian below is the scale box pattern

   |-11--12-14-----|
   |-11--12-14-----|
   |-12--14--------|
   |-12--14-15-----|
You can play any pattern of the modes as long as you keep the same root as
the key your playing in. Say if you wanted to play the phyrigian mode play
   it at the 12 fret.

This part with with the octave hybrid picking is diffrent than the
latest transcription of Guitar World. I am not gonna say they are  wrong
but the general feel is E minor and they start on D. So I prefer this transcription
and play it so. It is a octave of the E scale. Make sure that you get a good arch to
from touching the G string to make a good clean sound on the fret hand. And the picking
techinque is use the pick and the B string use your ring finger as you pluck the
   first note.

The next patten is a box C#Minor  pentatonic pattern this tab is not note perfect

They printed both like in buying the books. It had the standard notation and the tab.

Great lesson there Guru. Look forward to seeing more of this kind of thing. biggrin.gif I will however point out you cannot hammer from 7 to 5 therefore they must be pulloffs, perhaps an oversight? biggrin.gif

I tried to fix the errors. I didn't tab it. I will proof read them and have them perfect on the future ones. I was just really upset with Guitar Worlds latest print of the song. dry.gif I am glad you enjoyed it.

Looks like all of them in the second tab have h for hammer and pull. Maybe whoever tabbed it thought you'd be smart enough to figure it out....or maybe they were ######. rolleyes.gif

I fixed it . I don't think they used any pull offs. But when I read tabs I usually don't read them carefully. I get the pattern and try to play with the recording for the timing. I will be more careful in the future. I want to continue with this type lessons to build a archive them. So does any of your students frankyz have favorite songs they play a lot of. I have a dinosaur type mind.

I spend hour upon hour correcting tabs, and transposing songs to make it easier for the student(beginners) I have the song i am working on going in sound forge, and i take a tab from somewhere on the net(ultimateguitar usually) and just go through it with a fine toothcomb. The advanvage of soundforge is you can just highligt a part of the song and keep that going on repeat untill you have worked out every note. If a student requests a song, then i usully manage to do something with even the most inaccurate of tabs. But i will bear in mind your offer, incase i am unable to find a tab, or do not have the time to correct one. biggrin.gif Cheers. cheers.gif

Franky I didn't mean it like you read it. I play music that is old and no one hardly listens to anymore. I need a new what is popular among newer students. And as far as tabbing I don't have a lot of time to at the moment, Between work and my drug court I am at 68 hours a week until mid march. I started these lessons in showing that there is more to learning a song than just reading tab or even that matter standard notation. Between the new video lesson that Urmaboy does and Guitar Worlds new agenda. I used to have that type thinking but music is about expressing yourself not coping someone else, so I decided to take popular songs and explain why they sound the way they do to help them apply that when they start playing their own songs.
