I'm having problems with AA1.5. I'm trying to record.
So i record say a guitar track and try to record a vocal track over it.
So i need to hear the guitar track to record the vocals, the problem is it
re-records the guitar along with the vocal and sounds like a jumbled mess.
How do i get a previously recorded track to play without re-recording it as I record a new track????

"Ain't No Fun - ACDC"
"I got holes in my shoes
I got holes in my teeth
I got holes in my socks
I can't get no sleep
I'm trying to make a million
And I got patches on the patches
On my old blue jeans
Well they used to be blue
When they used to be new
When they used to be clean"

When you're happy with the first track you recorded, ie the guitar track in this case, you need to make sure you "unclick" the little red "R" you can see to the left of the track. Then you need to click the "R" on the next track for the vocals.
In other words, the big "record" button at the bottom will only record what you tell it to record. Hope this helps

Ok, I know this is an old thread, and I've since upgraded to Audition 3. Now I'm having the same problem as the threadstarter, but the fix I posted has nothing to do with it.
Basically, I lay down a drum track. Then I lay down my bass track, playing the drums on track 1, while recording on track 2. But when I do this, I end up with drums AND bass on track 2. If I go one step further, and record a guitar on track 3, while playing the other two track, I get all 3 instruments on track 3. Why can't I have everything recorded only once, on seperate tracks. I never had this problem with older versions of Audition.
I'm hoping Igor might know how to solve this one.

I haven't actually used Audition since 1.5 and seeing from your previous reply to the original question, the answer does not lie in arming and unarming the tracks using the 'R' button.
Funny that ever since version 3.0 people are asking me the same question so they must've changed something. I Googled a few things but couldn't find anything, it sounds like the tracks you monitor for playback are also sent to the input track you record on another. Can't you open / right click / access a menu for the track you want to record on and clearly assign a single input source to the track ?

Thanks for the reply.
It seems that they have made a change in the default setting since version 1.5 (that was the last one I used too). I'm pretty sure it can be toggled, as the threadstarter was having the same problem with 1.5.
As for the fix, I tried what you suggested, but I can't see anything that might help. I have a funny feeling that it's an overall value that needs to be toggled, as opposed to setting each track. Although I could be wrong.
I have to admit, it's extremely strange that google can't find an answer.

On my PC, my soundcard has a setting that specifies what is recorded. I get the same problem (with the track recording everything) when the soundcard is set to "What you hear" rather then "Mic/Line" or whatever. If you have a creative soundcard they're quite keen on this.

Cheers Tom, but I don't think that's it either. I'm using a Realtek integrated sound card, and I can't find any setting on it that would fix the problem.

This may seem like a stupid question but what is your input and how are you monitoring?

I'm running through a Behringer V-amp 2, directly into the mic input of my PC. Is that what you mean?
Although I doubt this would cause any problems, as I've used the same setup when I was using version 1.5.

Ah alright. Is the V-Amp's output not line level?
Like igorski said, your input is probably being routed back in through the output, meaning your original input is going into whatever mixer there is, being mixed with the output and then being sent back into the input.
What sound-card are you using? Have you checked the settings on the sound-card's mixer? What are the recording settings in Adobe Audition?
