Hey guys! At the moment I'm using a Toneport to record into Cool Edit. I'm wanting to get some more live feel to it, and record both my guitar and vocals at the same time. I can't seem to figure out how to set Cool Edit to accept this.
The instrument goes through the Send 1&2 from the Toneport, and the vocals come on Send 3&4. When I try and record it, Cool edit only pics up the guitar, even though I can hear the vocals in my headphones (connected to the toneport also).
I tried setting it up in Ableton live also but to no avail. How do I seperate these channels?

Cool Edit doesn't handle multi channel support as far as I know (unless someone's idea of multi-channel is one stereo signal
), it IS showing it's age.
Ableton on the other hand has no such probs, I don't know how exactly a Toneport functions, but if you can use it as an ASIO soundcard you should output it's sends to/as ASIO channels (instrument to ASIO1-2 and mic to ASIO3-4). Then from Ableton's mixer view you select the channel you want to record on and select the corresponding input (a pulldown menu just above the fader) you want to use. Press record on both tracks and they will each record from the separate incoming source.

If you can't afford to switch to a more modern software, look into downloading Reaper, it's a shareware program which is free basically and made by one of the developers of Cubase. As Igor said, Cool Edit is getting really dated, Reaper will do what you want and should be compatible with your device no problem.

Thanks for the info guys. I am tempted to release a slow falling tear in honor of Cool Edit. Such a nice little program it has been. *sob*
The reason I'm still hanging in there with it is because I tried to get into Ableton 6.0, which I have, and it just seem so different. It feels as if I have to learn everything from scratch.
I...I followed your advice, Igorski. Abletons settings were not set to accept the Send 3&4 at the time. Yes, the Toneport is ASIO. So that's one object cleared out of the way. Now ... I still have to figure out how to actually start using it, and record on it... :s
Here's to hoping the helpfile is actually useful!
