hey, just wondering if anyone knows of any flash animation software thats completely free (no trials etc), as im thinking of taking animation up as a hobby, but probably wouldnt produce anything worth paying for cheers

Nope.

While there are many open source packages to write Actionscript code, the Flash IDE (i.e. the program that will compile it to make it a actual Shockwave Flash file) is a licensed Adobe product, which costs moolah. Having said that, I don't actually use Flash for animation, but I can't imagine there being other ways to generate .FLA from third party software.

However, if you don't want a .FLA (which is the authoring file, so a 'open' document containing all movie data) but a straight up .SWF file (the final rendered/compiled/oh just the final product-output file that is used in say, webpages) there are some options varying from the Swift, Mix-FX program up to .SWF exporters for several animation packages. Altough I'm not too sure if these are actually totally free.
