Im moving to a new place soon where there is broadband downstairs, but i will also want it in my room.

What do i need to buy to be able to do that? Does it need something wireless or could it be wired?

It could be wired, but wireless will probably be easier. Get a wireless router and if your computer is not wi-fi enabled, a wireless adapter.

You get a disc when you setup a router that allows you to create a network, otherwise you won't need any software to actually run a network any tools that you need to enable a laptop or desktop with a network connection is built into Windows.

Just make sure your ISP provides a wireless service. Most do these days, but I'm pretty sure that not all of them do.

You can use a USB wireless adapter as Graeme says, or another option is to have a wireless PCI card installed.
