I recently purchased a '72 Peavey SS Musician 400 series head.

This head has 2 output channels, both rated at 210 watts through 2 ohms

Currently the only cabinet I have is a crate 4x12 rated at 8ohms

needless to say, this is a problem and my amp is not nearly as loud as it should be.

short of buying a new cab, what can I do?

He wasn't.....he is correct. There is really NOTHING you can do unless you are an amp guru, and even that, if you are not willing to buy a new cab (this means a cash outlay), then you pretty much left us with no way to answer your question.

His comment on the Mesa Boogie only meant that all your amp woes are pretty much addressed if you just get this amp. Being that you don't want to spend any $$$$, it wouldn't really matter what we say.
