Hello, I was curious of what some of you usually do for your intros. Some songs I do a turnaround going in to the first verse. Others I go right into the verse, and then sometimes I do a walkin on the bass. I would like to learn to figure out doing jazzy intros for older songs I have been working on that are Tin Pan alley type. On the country blues type pieces I do I usually play the first part of the verse or so and the go into it.

It really depends on the tune and what I just feel like doing at the moment. Sometimes a whole round, sometimes "from the V" (fifth position chord in the progression). Sometimes just a simple extension of the I-position chord in the beginning of the verse, and then into the lyrics, especially if it's more of an alternating-bass kind of tune.

In one of your earlier topics I think I posted a copy of the tab and sound-file for my arrangement of "Ain't Misbehavin' " which has a sort of jazzy feel, which could be used in a "from the V" intro in several different ways. (That tune was in the key of C.)

Hello, Thanks for the insight on this. Yeah a lot of the times I just go the whole round and then go into it. Lately, I have been wanting to learn jazzy kind of intros. It got me thinking about it sometime last week when I was working on Dream a little Dream of me, cause it has the nice little jazzy intro. I just never knew about which kind of formula some used for coming up with the intros. I have also noticed on like listening to Leon Redbone, he'll use the last bars of a song such as his version of Somebody Stole my Gal. Anyways, thanks again..
