Age: Old enough to know better...
Current Gear: Fender '51 CIJ Reissue Precision, with LaBella Deep talking flats, Raven Labs PHA1, a cheap Peavey combo that sounds almost halfway decent. I most jam with my ipod through the headphone amp so as to not offend others.
George L's, ProCo, and Spectraflex cables too if you care.
Previous Gear: Benavente Vintage Vortex 5 natural ash/maple, Benavente Vintage Vortex 5 CAR alder/maple/rosewood with flats, Benavente SC-5, Yamaha RBX-260F (Retired), A.M.P. BA-420, Schroeder 1210, too much else to list.
Dream Gear: Don't care so much anymore as long as it works when I get a chance to pick it up.
Current/Former Bands: Formerly in: A deeper shade of blue, Point Blank, Morning Star, this again?, Vigilante, Blind Lemon Meringue, Ill Swive, assorted other sit-ins, and some studio work. I am currently working on getting a new line up together.
Band Website: N/A
Inlfluences/Inspriation: Tommy Shannon, Stu Cook, Noel Redding, James Jamerson, Geezer Butler, JPJ, John Entwislte, Mel Schacher, Jeff Pontes, others as well.
Styles & Genres: Blues (duh!), Classic Rock, Funk, R&B (not the new stuff), some jazz if it is swingy, good old (and new) Rock & Roll, basically anything with cool or funky or different...
About Me: Too busy working and trying to get a house built to play much or even to practice.

I have been playing since about 1969. I "retired" from playing around 1984 or so in order to take a job with a record label as the head of their A&R department. Worked and worked and invested, and worked and invested and so on and so forth...and here I am! I recently got back into playing and that pretty much brings me to the present!

Age: 16
Current Gear: My current main bass is custom built by a Mr. Cliff Bordwell. My bass, although notably it's much darker looking in real life. It's excellent! My guitar is a Jackson Soloist, which I love dearly for my upper octaves. My amp is a 6 space rack, comprised of the following components: Tech 21 Sansamp RBI & PSA-1 preamps, Furman Power Conditioner, TC Electronic G Major effects unit, and QSC PLX 1200 watt poweramp. I'm currently running all this into an Avatar 2x12 bass cab/Line 6 guitar cab. Soon I will be getting an Acme bass cab for all purposes.
Previous Gear: I keep all my old stuff, although it's beginning to become a burden.
Dream Gear: Some day a 38" scale neck through bass with a body wood that's more exotic than ash, although more or less the same bass as I have now. From Cliff of course. I would also get a similar custom guitar built by either Cliff Bordwell or Ed Roman guitars. I also plan on some day upgrading my effects unit to a TC Electronic G Force. I'd like to upgrade all my guitar/bass gear to balanced; the only thing that has been stopping me is that it's a big hassle. Other than that I love the sound of my preamps and my gear as it is. I'd like to get a keyboard at some point.
Current/Former Bands: None at the moment, nor do I ever think I'll be in a satisfactory band any time soon.
Band Website: None
Inlfluences/Inspriation: Started because Steve, a bassist in my school wanted me to play. I was supposed to get a guitar so I could jam with him but I got a bass by mistake. I later got a guitar and ended up liking it more, but in the past year or so I've been falling in love more and more with bass. I see myself more as a composer than an actual bassist/guitarist. I like to write music, but you'd be surprised... I'm really not all that good at playing fast or showy riffs. I really enjoy the theoretical and textbook side of music, and I plan to someday become a teachor of music theory, or something music related. I see my instruments more as tools to express myself when I want to; most of my music is done on staff paper or on the computer and rarely ever makes it to the instruments. One of the things I do most is to improve others' music and give them tips rather than write my own. I honestly don't think I've ever written 1 whole song by myself. Even when I do write one, by the time I finish I'll end up trashing it because I've grown so much from writing that it's too simple for me.
Styles & Genres: Rather than focus on one, I dabble in all the genres. I play some jazz, some blues oriented rock, some rock in general ( although my nu-metal days are long gone ), and a lot of soft rock.
About Me: Spoiled white boy from the suburbs. I'm the son of 2 doctors, so I've never worked a day in my life. However, my school is incredibly rigorous and I spend most of my time in intellectual pursuits. I'm rather anti-social and rarely go out. Seeing what life is like for my parents is what makes me want to go into music and teaching; I want to do something that I enjoy. Becoming any kind of professional is incredibly hard work; I wouldn't want to become a doctor/lawyer/what have you JUST because of the money, what a waste that'd be. Furthermore, becoming any kind of professional means that you're wasting some of the best years of your life... even if I do go into music theory, I'm going to be missing out on actually having a band. Oh well, can't win at everything.

DOB: 12/01/1970
Current Gear: Warwick Corvette 5 String Active, Jay Dee Supernatural Custom 4 String Active, Burns Flyte Passive, Peavey T-40 4 String Passive.
Eden World Tour 2 x 400 watt head, Eden 4 x 10 700 watt speaker box with horn coupled with SWR 2 x 12.
Boss pedal tuner, MXR flanger.
I use Players stings.
Plus 5 guitars, guitar amp and heaps of effects pedals, plus a girlfriend with some great keyboards.
Previous Gear: Fender Bassman Amp, Rockit Head, Laney 4 x 10 Quad Box, Ibanez Roadstar Series II 4 String Active, Rickenbacker 4001 4 String Passive, Stagg 4 String Passive. Plus I've used many more basses and amps as 'one offs' or on loans.
Dream Gear: Two Eden World Tour Rigs, each driving two 4 x 10's and two 2 x 12's. One rig is the clean sound, the other rig if for effects. The two are then blended.
Zoot Deluxe 5 String Active (I will one day get one of these when the Aussie dollar recovers!)
Another Warwick (Thumb most probably)
Gus 4 string
Well basically, every bass that's ever existed!
Current/Former Bands: I freelance and do session work. Some of my more regular gigs are with The Wildcatz, The Shy Guys, Wilson's Gizmo, Big Boy Soul, The Williams Brothers Trio, Everly Brothers Tribute, The Moonhoppers. Past bands include The Thrings, Venus In Furs, Feed The Monster, The Factory, The Goodfellas, Undisputed Truth, TV Numb plus many more!
Band Website: I don't have my own website yet (!) but you can catch some of my recent and upcoming recordings (and maybe even find a photo or two) with Big Boy Soul at www.purplebeachrecords.com
Inlfluences/Inspriation: Bruce Thomas (Elvis Costello), Helen Carter (Do Re Mi), Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, Jim Hilbun (The Angels or Angel City), John Entwistle, Bootsy Collins, James Jamerson. These people are the most directly responsible for my current playing style but I like many others.
Inspiration - anyone who can use the bass imaginitively without forgetting their role in the band.
Styles & Genres: Anything except Country (but maybe if it pays well).
About Me: I don't go out of my way to listen to the bass players who we are supposed to like. I find many big name bass players quite dull because their music is set up to showcase the bass and not to contribute to a band. I love any bassline that leads me away from where I think it's going. Creativity! But don't forget you are a bass player!
I started playing bass when I was 17 (1987). I could already handle myself on the drums, and when an opportunity came to join a band I chose bass because I thought, STUPIDLY, that it would be easy. What I found out is that it's very easy to be a dull bass player, but it takes a lot of skill to be an effective bassist. Music, literally, is my life. I'm constantly writing, perform 150 - 200 gigs per year and and thankful that I can earn a living doing something I love.
I'm not racist, sexist or any other kind of IST. I reside in Mascot, Sydney Australia.
I also feel proud to be amongst such a diverse, helpful, funny and supportive group here at GTU.

Age: 14
Current Gear: squier p-bass special (w/ j-style p/up), crate 15w amp, hopefully upgrading next summer as i still have to get a new guitar.
Previous Gear: down tuner on effects processor
Dream Gear: ernie ball stingray and gallien kruger 2 speaker combo
Current/Former Bands: can i say future? well i hope i get one together in high school, don't know if i will play guitar or bass. we might be called the magnums or the lima beans.
Band Website:
Inlfluences/Inspriation: MATT FREEMAN, anyone who doesn't just play the root notes.
Styles & Genres: punk, alternative, grunge, indie
About Me: my gear makes me mad, i want to be matt freeman, bass is only cool if you play more than the root notes. like paulie jay says, it is easy to be a dull bassist, and i sure as hell don't want to be one of those. i like bass because my bass is much more dependable than my guitar, but that's not the only reason. i really like a band with a good bassist. i think i like bass also because it is simpler than guitar in some respects, yet is still an awesome instrument and fun to play. i will admit i like guitar more than bass, but is still fun to play a cool bass riff. the more i get into bass, the more i like it though. i've been playing guitar for two years in october and bass for less than half that. well whatever nevermind.

Age: 19
Current Gear: 1988 Fender Precision-Lyte (Jap), 'Legend' Precision-bass, Torque 200W 1x15" solid-state bass combo, Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus Pedal.
Previous Gear: 10W Marshall guitar amp (succesfully used as bass amplification for a year!), Fender classical acoustic guitar (nylon strings).
Dream Gear: Lakland 55-94 Deluxe 5-String bass. Gallien-Krueger 800RB Bass Amp coupled with GK 4x10" and 1x15"cabs.
Current/Former Bands: No current band at the moment, although I am well on the way to getting a hard rocking five-piece going here at uni. It should be sweet! Only former band that came to anyhting was Wooden Horse, whom I was with for a year and a half before we disbanded and went our separate ways to uni etc. Had one live gig pro-recorded and released an eight-track EP.
Band Website: Wooden Horse
Inlfluences/Inspriation: Jeff Ament, Geezer Butler, John-Paul-Jones and Duff McKagan are my strongest influences. It was McKagan who originally inspired me to play bass.
Styles & Genres: Classic rock, glam rock, funk, lighter alternative rock, indie, punk, metal.
About Me: I started my obsession with the four-string-thing four years ago with the purchase of the Legend P-bass. I took guitar lessons for four years from the age of seven to eleven, and started playing again about six months before finally replacing six-strings with four. Although I am not considering a career in music (I'm planning on going into journalism), I hope that I will be able to continue playing bass throughout my adult years.

About Me: I've been playing for just about 4 months at this posting. And I like to think that I am progressing well. But I could be doing better. I live in Alaska for most of my life and currently I am still there. I hate every minute of it. I skateboard, snowboard , write poetry, think about how much I hate myself and I'm very sarcastic (more-so in person). I'm self educated in the majority of everything I know. Besides the basic - I don't care what anyone say's , kindergarten is the highlight of school. I'm very timid about my playing. But I can be persuaded into playing infront of people I don't fully know. (it's hard when you're just a beginner with out much confidence).
