Hello and welcome to Legends 25 smile.gif I know i have stopped them for a while but do not fret Im Back For good smile.gif

Welcome to legends 25 smile.gif A requested legend from the loyal metalheads of this website you know him by his crazy ass shaped guitar his weird beard his fast legato runs and endless riffery Dimebag Darrell is legend number 25 .

Biography

Dimebag Darrel born Darrell Lance Abbot on August the 20th 1966 in Dallas Texas is the son of Country Western songwriter Jerry Abbot . So from a young age Dime has been exposed to music and the instruments used to create it . it was because of this early introduction that he picked up the guitar at a young age . He took lessons from some country legends and he picked it up pretty easy and soon he was being hailed as a virtuoso at an early age . By the time Darrell was sixteen years old he had already won all of the local talent conpetitions and band contests and was eventually no longer allowed to enter . Dime spent many years playing in various clubs and bars around his hometown of Dallas before getting any national recognition but nowadays it's safe to say that he is known as a guitar idol to many . His fast legato runs and crazy ass bends have given his his own sound .

The band of course that Dime is most famous for is Pantera the heavy metal quartet featuring Dime on guitars . Although Pantera were a heavy metal band , before they forged that sound they were actually Glam rock believe it or not . I have included the albums of them as a glam band in the discography below smile.gif

Pantera's sound was found when they released the album Cowboys From Hell in 1990 . An amazing album featuring some of Dime's best wpork including Cowboys From Hell,Cemetery Gates,Art Of Shredding and Heresy . Crushing riffs , Blistering solos and Phil Anselmo's growling voice it was this combination that made the people stand up and take notice . Vulgar Display their most hailed album (althoguh i prefer Cowboys) continued the sound and took it in a somewaht less melodic path . When Far Beyond Driven came and went to number 1 on the billboard charts it was set in stone that Pantera were something special .

Althought Pantera seemed ok inside the Pantera family things were going bad as when Dime and brother Vinnie Paul tried to contact rex Brown (bass) and Phil Anselmo(Vocals) about recording a new album they were pretty much ignored this went on for a while before they eventually announced to the fans that they were splitting up . Some feared it would be the end of the Dimebag magis but he proved us all wrong when the said that he had a new band recording featuring him on guitars Vinnie Paul on drums and two other guys whose names escape me . The band is called New Found Power . To 10 more years of blistering Riffs and solos from Dime smile.gif

A lot shorter than the other legends. why? smile.gif

also, wouldn't it be better to sort the threads so that the newest (25) is on top, and not the oldest (1) ?

Yeah it was quite short im sorry about that but it's hard to find info sometimes on just one member of a band . Not the best not the worst . And yes i also wish the posts were in order and im the process of sorting that out smile.gif

For those that have not seen the new Dean Guitars Dime Tribute Series, you should check them out.

Dime designed the Razorback, and I think it definately looks like something he would've loved to play.

Update:

QUOTE
Dimebag's killer's mother bought the gun
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The mother of the man who killed guitarist Dimebag Darrell admits she bought him the gun. Mary Clark tells a Columbus TV station WCMH she bought her son, Nathan Gale, a nine millimeter semiautomatic handgun because she was proud of his military service. Gale used that gun to shoot Darrell and three others on December eighth in Columbus. She says she will "never, ever be able to live that part down." She says Gale served in the Marines but was discharged after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. She says Gale was obsessed with Pantera and confirmed his friend's reports that Gale believed the band has stolen song lyrics from him. Clark says she believes the police officer who shot and killed her son did the right thing. She says, "You'll never now how many lives he saved."

That's what I was thinking. Anyway, I have found Dimebag extremely influential to my playing and now I'll never be able to meet him because of some @$$ that killed him.
