Depends on what you like, your guitar and the way you play. I've got several (well, more than several) guitars with different strings and all that, but my favorite regular acoustic strings are D'Addario Phosphor-Bronze Acoustic Bluegrass Guage, which is a hybrid thickness type with medium 6,5,4s and light 1,2,3s. I like a powerful bass response. Not all places carry them, if I can't find them and can't wait I use the Mediums.

Try a set of Ernie Ball Earthwoods Extra Light .10 guage. I tried the D'Addario Phosphor Bronze and didn't like them at all, changed the strings the next day to Ernie Ball and loved them since.

Did you try the Bluegrass guage? What kind of guitar do you have? I've found D'Addario P-Bs superior on every regular acoustic I have except my Guild and my Taylor. But I guess it just depends on what sound you like.

dadfad just out of curiosity what DID sound superior on your taylor... cuz i have one. and to the guy who said elixirs break easily, i still have the factory strings on my taylor (elixirs)... i bought it in may.

EDIT: although i must say it IS time for a change of strings. i have terrible treble response right now.

I use Elixers on it too (Dadarrio Bluegrass were to "over-powering" and tended to muddle the sound so I went back to the Elixers that were on it when I was given the guitar) (I assumed white-bronze Lights).

Your taylor came with elixirs as factory? Are you sure they're elixirs?

Either way, I don't usually keep factory strings on more than a few days at most.

And while elixirs are very good strings (one of the only two kinds of strings i use), they are prone to breaking due to the poly-whatever coating. quality strings, just not endurance strings

ya still can't go wrong with a set of DR Rare Bronze strings

OR you could go with brasswound strings, which I happen to prefer. But I can never find them in town and am too lazy to order them. So I stick with DR.

I don't know anyone who uses brasswounds or silk and steel strings regularly. It's all about the bronzewound.

Yes, it did. It was sent to me from the factory as a gift from bluesman Bowling Green John Cephas (an old friend) who was having his Bowling Green John Cephas Signiture Model produced by Taylor. The label was numbered and signed by John Cephas and Bob Taylor, and then personalized to me by John. It came with Elixers (silver-colored) on it, which I assumed was standard, but maybe only on that model (which was a premium model). When I replaced them with E-Silver Bronze it sounded the same (near as I could tell) as when I got it.

Here's a link to a picture I took of it not long after I got it showing the original strings....

Scroll down this linked-page for a picture of this Taylor....

I know a fella that recently purchased a little Cort acoustic/electric, and it came with Elixers. Maybe they're putting them on some makes at the factory.

They very well might be. They're being recognized as a good string (and I'd heard Elixer sometimes distributed free-strings to get their name out more. I recieved a letter from Elixir about ten years ago [I'd never heard of them then] wanting to know if I'd try their strings and then tell them my opinion. They sent me three sets of my choosing. Probably because I'd been tagged as an acoustic guitar-junkie!) Another possible thing to think about is that models with on-board electronics might be more prone to having Elixers on them (because they DO sound a tiny tad muffled, which wouldn't matter with electronics at all.)

all taylors come with elixirs nowadays, at least the full size ones anyway.
they even gave me a free extra set (not taylor, the store) but there was a tag thingy that said they come from the factory with elixirs.

you can also order strings from String This. Their strings don't come coiled, but rather, straight. Pretty interesting.
