This, in my opinion is the epitome of southern rock. Even though the Allmans had all that talent they weren't as badass as Skynyrd. Comprised mostly of high school dropouts with a grudge against their phys ed. teacher Leonard Skinner, hence the name Lynyrd Skynyrd. For a debut album this band sounds already well-formed, ambitious and had a definitive style. I myself loved "Free Bird" and I think it's one of the best songs to grace my ears. I was awestruck when i found out it was on their debut album. The only comparable bands for a debut outing might be Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers Band, Van Halen and The Doors. This Album also features one of the nicest ballads i've ever seen, Tuesday's Gone. And as is always said, the talent of the guitar duo of Rossington and Collins overshadows the great lyrics and singing style of Ronnie Van Zant. Overall this album would get a 10 out of 10 in my books.
