Band: Lynyrd Skynyrd
Album: Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd

Released - 1973 (MCA)

Produced by: Al Kooper

Band Members:

Vocal - Ronnie Van Zant
Lead Guitar - Allen Collins
Lead/Slide Guitar - Gary Rossington
Rhythm Guitar - Ed King
Keyboards - Billy Powell
Bass - Leon Wilkeson
Drums - Bob Burns

Notable Tracks:
-Free Bird
-Tuseday's Gone
-Simple Man
-Gimme Three Steps

This, in my opinion is the epitome of southern rock. Even though the Allmans had all that talent they weren't as badass as Skynyrd. Comprised mostly of high school dropouts with a grudge against their phys ed. teacher Leonard Skinner, hence the name Lynyrd Skynyrd. For a debut album this band sounds already well-formed, ambitious and had a definitive style. I myself loved "Free Bird" and I think it's one of the best songs to grace my ears. I was awestruck when i found out it was on their debut album. The only comparable bands for a debut outing might be Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers Band, Van Halen and The Doors. This Album also features one of the nicest ballads i've ever seen, Tuesday's Gone. And as is always said, the talent of the guitar duo of Rossington and Collins overshadows the great lyrics and singing style of Ronnie Van Zant. Overall this album would get a 10 out of 10 in my books.

Good call, I was going to add this one if no-one else did. One of my favourite albums, and probably Skynyrd's finest.

All those songs are on this one? It's like a greatest hits compilation on a debut album.

Does anybody knows what became of Bob Burns? What he is ding now?

I think Ed King is one of the better guitar players around. Gary and Allen are right there with him. All 3 worked together so well.

Great album, except Freebird isn't their best song in my opinion. I love it and listen to it all the time, but I think they have a couple great songs for #1. Like Comin Home which was never put on an album until First...and Last, or how about On the Hunt or Gimmie Back My Bullets. Skynyrd is the greatest and this is one of my favorite albums, I especially like Simple Man, Tuesdays Gone, Poison Whiskey, and I Ain't the One. Great album choice to put on the list. Don't forget Street Survivors......

Bob Burns has settled down somewhere in the country and is living a peaceful life with his family. after leavign the band becasue of the stress's negative impact on his health, he's decided not to continue touring.
But anyone know what Ed King's doing now?

I just recently got into that song and I have to say it is simply amazing. Tuesday's Gone, Workin For MCA, Whiskey Rock A Roller, and Freebird are just a few of my favorites. Also T for Texas is a cool one on their live album One more from the Road. All those guys that died in the crash and Allen Collins who didn't but died will live on forever as one of the greatest bands of all time yesani.gif . Cue the kicka$$ freebird solo guitar.gif
