Deep Purple

Machine Head

1972 (Import)

Members:
Ritchie Blackmore - Lead Guitar
Ian Gillan - Lead Vocal
Jon Lord - Organ
Roger Glover - Bass
Chris Curtis - Drums

Notable Tracks:
- Smoke on the Water
- Highway Star
- Space Truckin'
- Lazy

Even though this album is really short (just missing the mark of 40 mins) it's awesome, and to the point with kick ass solos between guitarist Blackmore and organist Lord. The band pretty much reached their peak on this album, you might actually be able to pinpoint it to the song 'Highway Star', everything about this song is great; Gillan's vocals, the organ, blackmore's solo, simply amazing. This album also contains the grandaddy of great guitar riffs, even though painfully simple, we all love the unmistakable, instantly identifiable, smoke on the water. Another great riff to come out of this album is Space truckin', one of the coolest power chord progressions ever.
This would probably rank as the #3 hard rock album to come out of the UK (behind led zep 4, and paranoid). No real weak spots on this album (with 7 songs how could you have any?). In my opinion the reason this album isn't as celebrated as disraeli gears or led zep 4 is because it's got that psychedelic edge to it, and that kinda died out a few years prior to the release, but that's beside the point that this album rocks like a bad motherf*cker.

this album kicks my a*s everytime I hear it. These young punks should be listening to this instead of emo junk, or rap. Deep Purple rocks!

i'm posting Back in Black too, hopefully soon enough they'll just let me post albums myself instead of having to go through the almighty improv, being the global mod that he is.

Great choice, Deep Purple were and still are an amazing band. I've seen them live twice and they completely blew me away both times, each of them have such a high level of musicianship!

Hell Yeah get this stuff into ya and you'll never go back to that punk and emo crap. instead of dashboard and ataris and all that other tripe listen to pioneering stuff like deep purple(maddest keyboard and guitar collaboration ever - child in time), led zeppelin(greatest line - up ever), Black sabbath(grandaddys and inventors of heavy metal), Jimi Hendrix(do i have to say anything) the list just goes on. there are some pretty good newer bands as well though. The offspring are awesome no matter what anyone says. one of the only decent bands to come out of the 90's

I got the album. Very good. All songs are worth listening to. My favs are the obvious ones: Highway Star, Smoke On the Water and, Lazy.

Sorry but the Machine Head lineup was the normal MkII lineup so the drummer was Ian Paice and not Chris Curtis

in fact Ian Paice is the only one who never left the band up to now

The best track on the album is 'Pictures of Home',its got everything in it.....even a bass solo!!!

Machine Head was the first album I bought, with my own money from my paper round, still got it but also have the CD aswell.
Can I have everything louder than everything else?
