Greetings from Denmark!
Artist: Eagles
Album: Hotel California
Members:
Joe Walsh - vocals, guitar, keyboards
Don Felder - vocals, guitar, slide guitar
Glenn Frey - vocals, guitar, keyboards
Randy Meisner - vocals, bass, guitarone
Don Henley - vocals, drums, percussion
Notable tracks:
All, except # 5 - Wasted Time (Reprise)
Strangely enough, Eagles (notice: not the Eagles) published 4 albums and a Greatest Hits before releasing their #1 album - Hotel California in 1976. After the Hotel California Album, they released The Long Run in 1979, and after that, they have almost only published Greatest Hits albums.
Hotel California starts with - of course - Hotel California. This 6½ minute wonder has firmly established itself as one of the most loved songs in the 20th Century. Especially the last 2 minutes are a must for guitar enthusiasts.
Moving to number 2 on the album - New Kid In Town, which is a simple song in its most beautiful way. Glenn Freys voice and Randy Meisners guitarone are great parts of this track.
Life in The Fast Lane doesn't please me that much - it's an ok folk/rock song, but lacks interesting elements.
Number 4 - Wasted Time - lovely ballad, good vocal performance by Don Henley, but were it any slower, it would stop.
Number 5 - Wated Time (Reprise) - is actually a sequel to number 4. Purely intrumental.
Victim of Love is the 6th track - and a perfect folk/rock ballad. I particularly love the interaction between the slide guitar and the lead guitar.
Joe Walsh makes his first apperance on the album with song number seven - Pretty Maids All In A Row. Unfortunately, I don't know who's playing the guitar solo after ca. 1:52, but it sure sounds good.
Before Le Grand Finale, we have Randy Meisners only song - Try And Love Again, which perhaps is best remembered by the stunning intro. Apart from a bit too long fade-out, this song is also a second listening worthy.
"She came from Provicende - the one in Rhode Island". Thus begins the final song on this masterpiece of an album. And what a great finale! From the piano intro to the pedal steel guitar, with a catching song and great lyrics, this song is along with Hotel California my two favorites.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my favorite album and has been so for several years. Nothing but good songs, especially Hotel California and The Last Resort. And to think that the lead vocalist changes between Joe, Glenn, Randy og Don H.
Should I name a "Sgt. Pepper-album" of the 1970's, Hotel California would be it. Not in the experimental category, but for the continuity.

I absolutly love the Eagles! they are my favorite band! anyone who disses them, i remind that thier greatest hits 71-75 was the best selling album of all time!!!!!! As for thier music, although i love hotel california, i would have to say that if i could only have one of thier albums, i would definatly pick greatest hits 71-75 as i believe that is the best collection of eagles songs out there, other than of course the selected works 72-99 four disc set.

i would probably consider that 71-75 album,
i am quite glad that i picked this Hotel California album for such a cheap price, because, from what i remember, the only good and listenable songs were Life in the fast line(good chorus), and of course the master-piece Hotel California,
now i am definately going to give another listen tonight, but for now, it gets a
3.5 out of 5 stars

it's not that i don't care, but some things will never change.

Because of The Eagles I play the guitar. I remember when I first listen to them. I was 12 and my father has only got one song of them, the master country/folk piece "Take It Easy". I recorded a 60-minutes tape only with that song!!! After a couple of weeks, I got "Peaceful Easy Feeling", another country/folk hit (one of my favs). Then in A-side I had "Take It Easy" and in the B-side "Peaceful Easy Feeling". I spent all day listening to that tape.
When I grew up and earned some money, I went to the disco-shop and bought some Eagles' records. I got amazed! I only listened to them. They were (and still are) my music gods. When I listened to "Hotel California" I thought I found heaven. They were perfect making music.
I read someone in this forum telling that he was born in the wrong decade... I think the same. I'd like to have lived in the 70's so I could see the Eagles live.
They never played in Spain and I know they'll never do.
I think I'll die without watching my heroes... :'(

i like those songs better too. i'm one of those 'born in the wrong decade' people too. i only liked a few songs on hotel california, i prefer their older stuff like already gone, lyin' eyes, etc.. but i'm glad they're on the list nonetheless.
