how would you solo on acoustic... on electric you usually play stuff like around the 12 fret and at a faster speed but would be a affective acoustic solo would at be a lower (sounding) fret? thx for the help smile.gif

Just do the same thing you'd do above the twelfth between the nut and twelfth instead (actually I prefer the lower octave for most electric leads too. I might work a lead up to above the 12th, but that's not where I do most of it). There are also nice acoustic-friendly type riffs to use as well.

(I'm assuming you mean as part of an acoustic band or duo)
Un-plugged is not the same as

I usually do that also, start on the top and move down to higher pitches but thats just with the little shapes, I really need total fret board awareness sad.gif

i think soloing on acoustic effectively really separates the men from the boys, with electrics you can kinda hide away sometimes, but with acoustic you play a bum note, then EVERYBODY knows about it. you put some guage 13's on or something, then see if you can rip it up. acoustic solo relies totally upon melody (as solos should) rather then fancying it up with speed.

I actually shred on acoustic occaionally.I pick every note, usually it's pentatonic.

like this:

----10-13-10---13-10-----------------------10-13-10---10/15~~---
-13-----------13------13-10----------10-13-----------13-------------
------------------------------12-10-12---------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't usually play huge solos on acoustic, just suff like that.Lately I've been exparamenting with tapping riffs. When you say you tap, everyone always assumes it's on G,B,and high E,and it's lead.Well I though I'd try to set myslef apart for the rest by doing something rarely seen.Tap riffs,on the E,A,and D strings.I know Kerry King did a solo like that once. Also for some good acoustic solos, listen to al di meloa.Or another guy I've heard is a madman on acoustic paco de luco.

Kaki King taps on acoustic. And doesn't sacrifice melody for speed. She's brilliant. Download some, and be inspired! smile.gif
