i'm lookin for a list of songs to play with just me singing and playing.
i'd prefer easier ones in terms of voice but go nuts on the guitar.
i'm just getting bored of playing songs that require two guitars, like tears in heaven.

(one man voice he)? Let see...

Neil Young: sail away (easy stuff)
Lennon: imagine (the easiest stuff)
Simon & garfunkel: the boxer (finger style)
Bod Dylan: desolation row (you can ramble on it)
george Harrison: while my guitar gently weeps (so many ways to play it)

You'll find those 5 oldies goldies at tablatures. Enjoy.

Basically anything by Christy Moore. Though, your voice needs to fit his songs, mind you.

Loads of folk and country blues tunes. Like Robert Johnson, the guy in my avatar. Tracy Chapman, stuff like Talking about the Revolution.

It takes forever to to get it right but extreme's 'more than words ' gets great reactions. It's not at all difficult chordwise but getting the timing down and then singing on top of that makes this a very hard but rewarding song to add to your catalog.
Ben Folds Five 'Superman' is very easy to do on guitar while it sounds better doing a two or three finger picking pattern, it comes almost as wonderfully if you just flat pick it.

TLC's "unpretty" comes off great on a classical or a steel with light delay.

Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.

He recorded a total of twenty-nine songs (with several relatively recently found alternate takes of several of them).

I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom
Sweet Home Chicago
Rambling On My Mind
Kind Hearted Woman
When You Got A Good Friend
Come On In My Kitchen
Terraplane Blues
Phonograph Blues
They ‘re Red Hot
32-20 Blues
Dead Shrimp Blues
Cross Road Blues
Walking Blues
Last Fair Deal Gone Down
If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day
Stones In My Passway
Preaching Blues
I’m a Steady Rollin’ Man
Me And The Devil Blues
From Four Till Late
Hellhound On My Trail
Little Queen of Spades
Malted Milk
Drunken Hearted Man
Stop Breakin' Down Blues
Travelling Riverside Blues
Honeymoon Blues
Love In Vain

Is that twenty-nine.................Nope. One more.......sh!t........okay:

Milkcow's Calf Blues

That makes twenty-nine. Like I said, some have alternate takes now available (which I thought was like striking gold when those old masters were found in the vaults in the late 1980's). I'd only had the original twenty-nine for twenty years (which most bluesicologists thought was all that had ever existed). Anyway, there are his tunes.

As far as playing his stuff. There are several ways to approach it. His open-tuned stuff and his standard tuned stuff. A pretty decent one maybe to start might be Kind Hearted Woman or 32-20. They're done in A (I forget if either was capoed, if it sounds like key of B for example, it was capoed on the second fret. He was big on capoing. It gave some of his stuff a real frenetic, on-the-edge kind of sound. Anyway................ well there's a place to start if you want.

(Pick a tune, any tune! laugh.gif )

A nice instrumental..."Ebryonic Journey" (Dropped-D) by Jefferson Airplane (written by Jorma Kaukonan, it's NOT a typical Airplane tune).

Neil Young acoustics...."After the Gold Rush", "The Needle and the Damage Done", "Old Man" (on a CSNY album)....he's done a number of decent ones.

If you take the vocals down an octave, you could do Fade Out by Radiohead.

looks like i'd better get to downloading.

the reason i started this thread was because my band kinda quit on me and no longer want to jam, so i was thinking of going into battle of the bands as a one man act this year. I've also never seen an acoustic at one ever and this'll be my third one attending/playing in.

these are my ideas for my set (it's gonna be 20 minutes), so if you guys could pick some good ones out of this list it'd be much appreciated.
-Needle and the damage done
-classical gas
-sweet baby james
-bron-yr-aur
-black mountain side (maybe)
-little martha (maybe)
-tears in heaven
-redemption song
-Ohio
-f*ck her gently
-blackbird
-let it be (on piano, i'm thinking about this one too.)
-under the bridge
-more than words

also if you guys have any better suggestions... pass em on.

'Tears in heaven' can easily be done on one guitar, but if you want a real challenge try something by John Martyn like 'Solid Air' or 'May you Never' , or anything by him, but be prepared to change you tunings every now and then.

Or James Taylors, 'Frozen Man' or 'Like Everyone She Knows' from the 'New Moonshine' album. They're easier than they sound and will always impress. And btw people will know me for belting on about how good Olson Guitars are (as well as Lowdens), but if you want to hear the best Olsen ever made, it 's being played on those two tracks.

So many. All songs (within reason) can be played acoustic if you make up your own picking pattern around the chords
