Ive been playing my epiphone for a year now..and am still too shy to try any of his stuff. But what i am learning is ....who really cares about mimmicking one of the greatest ever....music is meant to be listened to an interpreted, so you can take what you want from it: so i decided to take the chords and make them my own...sort of. The easiest song..is of course Say goodbye. simply A, E,and D...back to A...stick around for a second or two..and do it again!
My second song is gravedigger from the new solo album. These chords are..(as i play them) Am, G2, E (sometimes E7) you'll know when you play it.... back to Am..then to Dsus2..i think( D without 2nd finger on 6 th string)... and chorus id Dm...D7...and then i think C, G,
Maybe its a bad habit to get into..but for those fans of Dave and DMB...its a great way to learns the basics of some of their stuff..to keep you motivated to spend the time..to learn it for real.
I am a true amateur..so maybe my advice is not the best...its just how i tackle the songs..good luck!

"crash into me", the acoustic version of "the space between", and the version of "everyday" from the sept 11 tribute are really easy and fun to play!
edit: the acoustic version of "crush" is pretty happy too!

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate it!
ON a side note, I gotta say as much as I like his early stuff the last DMB cd (Busted Stuff I think) and the solo album that recently came out were pretty bad. I think the bonus cd that came with the Grave Digger CD is great but his actual solo cd is awful. Am I alone on this one?? I'm not trying to bash him just wondering if anyone else was disappointed.

Well, you like "The Dave Matthews Band." Everyone in that band is talented, very talented. When you take away 5 things that you like, you're likely to not enjoy it as much. I wouldn't say it's "pretty bad,” it’s just not as good.

i'd try Crash into Me
True, true. All in C#minor I believe, shares the same kind of chords as 'Pardon Me' by Incubus
I'd also suggest the acoustic version of Ants Marching (minus solo), because it's a jaunty little tune that would take practice but would be well worth learning a mon avis

Yeah, like I said, I'm not trying to bash just curious as to waht some other fans have thought of his recent work
Personally I'm not a huge DMB fan. They've done some exceptional stuff ('#41, Crash into Me, Everday, Space Between, Ants Marching'), but I'm really not personally struck on their other stuff. why I know not, but if any fans would give me some suggestions I'd welcome them

the best dave stuff is anything with tim reynolds!vh1 storytellers was just amazing.and if you never heard "stream" by tim reynolds, find it.im sorry but stream makes claptons "classical gas" sound like mary had a little lamb!!!ha
No fuking kidding. I have the powertab for a live version of Stream and it is insanely hard to do, its in G tuning as well. I have tried playing it and its mad to play up tempo. I will learn that some day.

check out www.dmbtabs.com, completly accurate tabs and videos and explainations. the boards over there offer some nice advice as well. for any other questions, i might direct you to www.amidreaming.org. the early stuff was some good inspiration and good stuff, and the new stuff is more open chords rather than the classic "dave style" chords. ive learned all his stuff, and it wasnt really that hard (i do admit an obbsession) just keep at it. any of his stuff is worth spending time on
