Well, if it would be anything worthwhile it should be more expensive, I'd assume.

I've heard when they make deals like this, they'll take weeks and weeks to send it to you. Then they'll call and ask if you would like to buy a case, strings, and other accesories, then sometimes ask if you want to buy some type of warranty.

for 20bux...i'd probably do it though, it could take all the time it wanted to get to me, as long as it eventually gets to me

Most of those deals are straight forward. We (E-tailers) get the adress of a manufacturer in china and either order independantly or togeather a whole container of these instrumnets. (Violins, mandolins, guitars etc.) when they come in we toss a couple on e-bay at cost ('Round 10-20 dollars- container shipping costs makes a differance here!) something that also gets people onto our retail sites.
These guitars (I think the Johnson is probably what you're talking about.) Vary hugely in quality and construction. Theye're basically disposable guitars! Half the time they varnish over the frets! (Buzz Galore!)
As far as follow ups go if anyone contacts you saying that an item is unavaliable or to try and sell you stuff in addition to you purchase on e-bay. PLEASE forward the email to e-bay staff. That sort of thing is not tolorated!
Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.

Interesting story... i dont like to take my real guitar on outdoor camping type trips...so i decided to ham it up a bit!. I went to my local mega-lo mart..or whatever you call them. And i bought a kids starter 6 string accoustic (first act)guitar for around $40.
I then replaced the tuning pegs...and put the deepest sounding accoustic strings i could find on. And the little thing sounds hilarious! ive sat on it..dropped it...tripped over it...and done everything but throw it in the oven! and beleive it or not it still holds a tune just fine. Great for camping trips...cause its all about your style and the way you play...it will still sound good...and you can even pass it around without the worry of someone ruining your gear!
Just a thought!

its saved my AZZ a few times... and i can be convieniently played in the comfort of your own bathroom!

You're all liars if you try to tell me you dont play when your in there! biggrin.gif

Hmmm, i dont think i would buy a guitar off the net, as even fender standard strats/teles vary quite a bit from guitar to guitar, and it is worse with acoustics.

For example:
I bought a 120 quid westfield acoustic, put on some badass melodic bronze martin strings and it sonds amazing, my friend who owns a 1200 pound martin acoustic has tried to buy it off me several times, and in the end went to purchase his own. However, his one sounds far too bright and tinny, and has extreme fretbuzz.

These cheapo disposable jobs are ok though, i got a 'santana' spanish guitar from my local supermarket for 15 pounds for camping trips and its great fun, you can really hammer it cos of the nylon strings.

I bought said Johnson off E-bay and keep it at work. It sounds pretty good and keeps tune well. And thats after it is tossed around by me and a buddy who also plays.

I must say those guitars plain suck. I bought one b/c i was looking to get a good deal. It was. I got a soft case, pick, extra strings, and a pitch pipe tuner. However the strings high above the fret board, it is only 19 frets and by the end of the guitar, the strings are about .5 inches above the fretboard. It is very hard to play and have sound good. It falls out of tune easily. It is missing a hook for a strap, (it onyl has one.) The design around the sound hole is a sticker, and is cheaply stuck on. Also, the fretboard is not on well. It is not chipped, but it was poorly sanded and a little too far forward, making it appear to be chipped. It might be good though, if you can find a way to lower the action of the strings. That leads me to my question. How do you lower string action on an acoustic guitar?

As for strap endpins, my Takamine has only one too.
And on a side not, might want to lower the action on your guitar if possible.
All you need to do is take your strings off and put an allan key into the hole for it. If your guitar was that hole, you will find it in the soundhole, right in the middle, topside, under the fretboard. Turn clockwise to lower, anti-clockwise to rise the action. If you don't have such a hole on your guitar, you might want to ask John (Dadfad) for some technique to take the fretboard off and put something beneath it. You're guitar's neck will become a wee bit thicker, mind.

Hope I was of help to you.

Shane

Takamines have the truss rod adjustment under the soundhole. Some other acoustics, just like most electrics have them on the headstock. You can do slight modifications here, but if you want to change the action more drastically, it's better to raplace or sand the saddle. If you tighten the truss rod too much frets may buzz somewhere in the middle.

i have a cheap encore - i've had it since i was 8 and i still play it(£35)

to lower the action just file away at the nut /saddle. make sure you don't go to far so try it a small bit at a time. or else take it to a tech and let him set it up properly for you.

guitars like thaose cheap ones are supposed to be good for learning slide because they are cheap, have high action , not many overtones. and the quality of the fretboard doesn't matter either. so everyone should have one really.

( it is true too that they make for good playing in the loo, i've done it laugh.gif
