My 1st atempt at amplifying my Guild G37 was 20 years ago. I bought a Barcus Berry transducer...the hottest thing out. I didn't like the end-pin jack idea so I drilled a hole in the bottem bout of the guitar for a jack. Then, what the hell? Why not add a volume knob? Another hole. And then custom wired it. First time out of the gate....sounded like crap. I even tried moving the trans around different places and just running it straight to the jack. No help.
So I started using soundhole pickups. For over 20 years my heart sank every time I looked at the Guild with stupid holes in it.
I've been reading a lot on the web lately about the BBand AST. So I finally decided to give it a try. I brought the same Guild G37 to a local repairman (I didn't want another 20 years worth of blame) to plug those holes and install the BBand. Got it back today. He did a very good job plugging the holes. Most people will never notice. But I was not impressed with the BBand. In order to get any volume at all I'd have to insert a 1/3 eq on the channel.
I'm going back to the soundhole pups. My Fishman has done all I've wanted at any volume with ZERO, FLAT eq on the board. Although I have heard about Sunrise pups. The guy only makes 1000 / year. Anyone use them?
