Washburn makes a very affordable (under $120) acoustic that sounds good. Otherwise you can go with some off-brand names through magazines like Musicians Friend that have acoustics for $100 or less, but dont expect anything out of these guitars.... Guitars are expensive and you get what you pay for!!

i disagree....if your generally an electric player just go buy a cool looking steel string acoustic from a pawn shop somewhere....my bro got this wicked little black acoustic from a second hand shop....it was cheap as anything, i have a 600 cort acoustic and im jealous of his little black one

Check this out, I was in the Philippines and bought an ovation type cutaway body acoustic guitar (bootleg) for about $60. It wasn't electric...yet. She asked if I wanted pickups. She grabbed her tools, poked two wholes up near the top of the guitar, and one on the bottom. installed knobs, installed the input, and the pickup all in about 5 minutes right before my eyes.
Plays like crap. Anything above the 10th fret is buzzed. The fret wires are a little bit too long for the neck, so it extends a tiny tiny bit off the edge of the neck so it hurts sometimes when you slide up and down. Sound is ok, but sometimes its "clingy and clangy." But it's playable and I still love it. It gives some songs the clanginess it needs, like Tears in Heaven, the very first notes, it sounds great with that song.
So what i'm trying to say is, get the cheapest guitar you can find. If you're poor like you said, get a poor man's guitar, but play it with the richness of your soul.

at musicians friend you can get a washburn d100 for $130. i got a $300 washburn and it plays almost as well as my friends ovation legend ($950) and the ovation will tear your fingers to pieces.
THE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chances are it's more the strings/the action.

You can check this on harmony central too...
The M.F. rogue rd100 is on special for like 50$
It is a totally basic guitar that kicks the crap out of anything under 300$
You can drag it around, loan it out whatever and you won't care.
It's got a nice sound to it as soon as you change the crappy oem strings.

Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.
