Band: AC/DC
Album: High Voltage

released in 1976

Track Listing:
1. It's A Long Way to the Top (If you Wanna Rock n' Roll)
2. Rock n' Roll Singer
3. The Jack
4. Live Wire
5. T.N.T.
6. Can I Sit Next to you Girl
7. Little Lover
8. She's got Balls
9. High Voltage

The Band:

Angus Young - Lead Guitar
Malcolm Young - Rhythm Guitar
Bon Scott - Lead Singer
Phil Rudd - Drums
Mark Evans - Bass

AC/DC took the world by storm with their American debut album, "High Voltage". The band took the band's two earlier Australian releases, "High Voltage" ('74) and "T.N.T." ('75), tossed them in the blender, and pulled out "High Voltage". For those who need a break-down, it's as simple as this: muscular, no-holds-barred hard rock mixed with a healthy amount of straight-up blues. The longevity of the songs on the album are demonstrated through rock stations around the world. Quickly, the band your parents wouldn't let you listen to, became a world-wide sensation highly influencing future generations to come.

The Young brothers' talent, as well as the rest of the band's, is displayed throughout "High Voltage". The first track, It’s A Long Way to the Top, is all-round greatness from the kick-ass opening riffs to the bagpipe solos.

Rock n' Roll Singer has the signature-sounding Angus leads that make the track a good one. The Young brothers' guitar work on the song make it what it is: an awesome track.

A song about an VD-infested woman, The Jack, is a nice little blues number. Referring to a game of cards makes Bon Scott's sense-of-humor noticeable. Angus' bluesy solo adds to the greatness of this track.

Another rebellious song, Live Wire, showed the bands "rock n' roll" attitude. Once again, the Youngs show us just how talented they are with their amazing guitar work.

T.N.T., one of the bands more popular songs, starts out in the infamous chants of "Oy!". Bon's humorous lyrics add to the splendid sound of the lead guitarist's Gibson SG. An unforgettable track.

Can I Sit Next to you Girl is a groovy, riff-filled fun-house. Taking simple blues licks and twisting them in to his own little toys of destruction makes the track one that stays in your mind.

To finish up the album, AC/DC throw "High Voltage" at us. The band's ballsy attitude and the ability to rock is tossed at the audience through this title track.

Overall:
A classic, essential AC/DC album that any hard-rocker must have. Falling just short of "Back in Black", the album one of the best, and should be added to your CD collection.
9/10

Great cd. Are you sure Mark Evans was still the bassist at the time? I'm pretty sure Cliff had moved in by then. Good job, Bon Scott was awesome.

No, Mark was still the bassist. It says it right in the booklet of the CD. The back cover of the booklet is pretty cool. It has complaints from schools and clubs about Angus, Malcom and the band. It's pretty funny.

Actually, the songs Little Lover and She's got Balls were from the earlier High Voltage original release on which George Young and Rob Bailey played bass. But Mark Evans plays all the other tracks wink.gif

"She's got BAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSS!!!!!!!"

thats gotta be one of my fave songs from that album. it's quite clever. there's a bon scott quote that goes something like this:

"I was married at the time when I first joined the band and my wife said: 'Why don't you write a song about me?' So I wrote 'She's got balls'. Then she divorced me."

and this one too about his singing voice:

"There was no vocal training in my background, just a lot of good whiskey."

Angus and Malcolm can be your idols too, but I be the greatest fan on this website.

This album is probably one of my favourites of all time. Can I Sit Next To You Girl was the 1st song I ever heard by them and it is probably still my favourite song by them.
