AC/DC took the world by storm with their American debut album, "High Voltage". The band took the band's two earlier Australian releases, "High Voltage" ('74) and "T.N.T." ('75), tossed them in the blender, and pulled out "High Voltage". For those who need a break-down, it's as simple as this: muscular, no-holds-barred hard rock mixed with a healthy amount of straight-up blues. The longevity of the songs on the album are demonstrated through rock stations around the world. Quickly, the band your parents wouldn't let you listen to, became a world-wide sensation highly influencing future generations to come.
The Young brothers' talent, as well as the rest of the band's, is displayed throughout "High Voltage". The first track, It’s A Long Way to the Top, is all-round greatness from the kick-ass opening riffs to the bagpipe solos.
Rock n' Roll Singer has the signature-sounding Angus leads that make the track a good one. The Young brothers' guitar work on the song make it what it is: an awesome track.
A song about an VD-infested woman, The Jack, is a nice little blues number. Referring to a game of cards makes Bon Scott's sense-of-humor noticeable. Angus' bluesy solo adds to the greatness of this track.
Another rebellious song, Live Wire, showed the bands "rock n' roll" attitude. Once again, the Youngs show us just how talented they are with their amazing guitar work.
T.N.T., one of the bands more popular songs, starts out in the infamous chants of "Oy!". Bon's humorous lyrics add to the splendid sound of the lead guitarist's Gibson SG. An unforgettable track.
Can I Sit Next to you Girl is a groovy, riff-filled fun-house. Taking simple blues licks and twisting them in to his own little toys of destruction makes the track one that stays in your mind.
To finish up the album, AC/DC throw "High Voltage" at us. The band's ballsy attitude and the ability to rock is tossed at the audience through this title track.
Overall:
A classic, essential AC/DC album that any hard-rocker must have. Falling just short of "Back in Black", the album one of the best, and should be added to your CD collection.
