One of my old students, now a teacher and a coach himself, came in the office this morning, where I spend some time each day drinking coffee and flirting with the ladies, and told me that he had a guitar.
" Great, " I say, "what ya got? "
He tells me it's an acoustic that his grandfather gave him, and it needs a string, and asks me if I can put a new string on and tune it for him. I tell him that it probably needs a whole set, and I'll get some, put em on, tune it, and bring it back to him tomorrow.
He brings it in and it's a classical guitar that somebody had put wire strings on. I told him what he had, and that it needed different strings and explained why.
Man I've never put on classical strings before, thank goodness I found a website that shows how. Seems like those nylon strings stretch forever, but I've got it done, and it sounds pretty good. I don't think I'd like one myself, but it's a good start for the young man.

My first guitar was a Classical Acoustic. When I had to change the strings, I would buy the ball-end strings that Ernie Ball had made. I advise you do not use those strings, as they really suck.
Yeah, stringing them isn't all too bad. I can never get the High E string to get on good. Every time I go to tune it, the tension would be so high and the string is so slippery, that the knot at the end would undo and come out. I got used to it now though.

Now you see why I don't mind tremolos on electric so much. I'm used to tuning problems. Metal strings will stretch within two hours, for nylons it takes up to two days.
But I love them.
But I love them.
