Use your tuner. Now, if you want to bring your guitar down a half step you'd be tuning each string down a letter. So E would go down to D#. Or, you could use an online tuner.

If you want to detune only from time to time, one guitar will do.
If you use heavy strings and change tunings all the time, you might as well look for a cheap guitar for some alternative tuning. That's a must have if you want to play onstage using different tunings, when there's no time to mess around with tuners.
If you're not familir with tuners and stuff try the capo trick. If you put it on the first fret, tune as if to standard and take off the capo you're half step down. If you do the same with a capo on the second fret, you'll be whole step down.

You may want to get yourself a KORG Guitar/Bass Tuner. It's digital, I have the GA-30 Model. It actually has a "Flat" button on it that you can press multiple times and then tune down but it will still apear as the normal string name on the tuner.
For Example, it I want to tune down a 1/2 step for songs in Eb, I hit the button once, it goes into "flat" and when you hit the Low E, it display the normal E note as being "sharp" until you tune down and when you get to Eb, it shows "E"...if you want to do Drop D tuning, you hit the "flat" button twice...then do the same thing because when your at "E", the string has been tuned down a whole step (or D).
