When I put new strings on my guitar they always sound real twangy and metalic. I was wondering if there is a brand or type of strings that would sound softer. Thanks.

Look for a set of "silk & steel" strings...don't know who makes them but ask for a set. They have a mellow almost classical sound.

also elixir POLYWEB... make sure it's not nanoweb... polywebs have much mellower tone compared to nanoweb... they also reduce that squeak from sliding.

Flat-wound jazz strings sound pretty mellow. But is that what you want? Does the metallic sound go away soon? I usually use D'Adario Bluegrass-guage Phosphor-Bronze Acoustic. As Stu mentioned, Martin Silk 'n Steel strings give you a very mellow, almost nylon, kind of a sound.

I suggest that once you string your guitar up again, tune it up, then let it sit for 24 hours. I know its hard. But it will sound alot better if you play it later and let the strings SLOWLY stretch themselves out.

Polyweb Elixers will cost more but they will last twice as long and are a great sounding and feeling string

If you do go with them get the "light" and not the "superlight" strings the super light have a lil more raspy of a sounds in hindsight....but i still like them.

Try martens' silk and steel. I us them on my 12string and my 6, they have a longer life and a ritch sound. also earthwhood makes them as well, I think?
