There's no shame in playing electric. Go for it, have fun!

To me abandoning my acoustic = giving up playing the guitar.

I have no electric guitar.

Yep, I have absolutely no need for one. I do mainly Irish Folk and Singer/Songwriter sorta stuff (playing together with a woman who plays fiddle and does backing vocals while I play acoustic guitar, tin whistle, washboard, harmonica and spoons and do the lead vocals (I'm not doing all that at the same time though laugh.gif )) so an electric guitar is really more or less pointless for me.

Since i've gotten my new acoustic, I've no interest in electric. I'm selling my amp, all my effects (Minus the BD-2) and one of my electric guitars - i've just lost the interest. Every time I pick up the electric to play, I put it down again a minute later. It just doesent do it for me any more. Where as when I pick up the acoustic, I just cant put it down. It's within easy reach, theres no wires to get tangled up in... Acoustic rocks.

If you do happen to sell that BD-2, give me a hola. I wouldn't mind having it back in it's "country of sale", and I might actually have a use for it someday. smile.gif

As for the original topic: I like things that crunch sometimes, I like things that scream sometimes, I like things that whisper sometimes. My electrics do the first two things, my acoustic's used for fingerstyle stuff (yes, I'm one of those people who feel more comfortable fingerpicking on an acoustic instead of an electric), and playing a little slide. I'm not too good at slide, mind.

I'm trying to get my strumming up to speed, or making it more interesting (à la capo2nd's soundclick, marvellous), but it kind of annoys me how bad I am at it. The entire folk/other acoustic-faster-strumming-style is new to me, and it feels like relearning everything. smile.gif

You play the spoons?

Did you hear about the bloke that won a trip to China for playing the spoons?

He was out there 6 months trying to win a trip back laugh.gif .

Dude, they're different instruments. Saying that there's no use for an electric is pompous, just as pompous as saying there's no use for an acoustic.

i like electric and acoustic equally.....but i spent the first 10 months playing an acoustic and so naturally im really into playing electric because its new to me....plus i want 2 be a lead guitarist so electric will probably become my priority.....when i play my acoustic its always ever only rythm and fingerpicking..i never play lead stuff on it.....i practice all my lead on electric because its just easier.

I spent years learning to play lead, wanting to play in a band ect,It was all i was interested in.Then once id done the band thing and realised i didnt really like and prefered to play for myself or with a few friends at home i got a little tired of electric guitars in genral. Then i started building acoustics and developed a real apreciation for how they work and what really goes into them. And what with certain people here introduceing me to some great acoustic players my electrics pretty much got made redundent.

For someone like me that just wants to play for himself at home acoustic is much more suited. In the summer my misses granparents go of on there yearly holiday and we go off to look after there house. They live in a little cottege with a well in the garden and all that crap out in the middle of nowhere down by the coast.I can take my acoustic with me and walk for miles and just sit someplace quiet with a few beers, a joint and just play for the birds. No one anywhere to bother me.Total peace from the rest of the world. You just cant do that with an electric.

I think acoustics are a good way to learn in the begining. I had an electric for about 7 months, rarly played it...then I got an acoustica nd I can't put it down.

I think they are perfect for people living in apts. Somthing you can pick up and play right away, no need to set up anything, just feel it and go...

I think it all depends on your mood at the time...
