Well, i've decided to rob rick's idea for the acoustic forum. I might try another next week, depending on how this one goes.
First up, we have...

"Greven J Guitar".

Nice single cutaway. Inlay work.

Showing the beautiful quality of wood used.

You either love it or you hate it, ehy.

Lowden F25C
My favourite out of this selection.

Simple guitar, but beautiful in it's own way.

Very classy headstock. Simplistic, but you'd know from a mile away that it's not one of these guitars made by a big machine in their hundreds...

Simple guitars, but I really have grown to like them.

Starting bid: US $1,649.00

1999 C.F. Martin J-40

Quite a lot of work gone into those inlays.

It speaks for itself really. I'm not a huge fan of it, but it's a hell of a guitar!

Current bid: US $1,400.00

MARTIN J12-65

Now heres a beautiful twelve string.

Flamed maple. *Drools*
Fine piece of work all around.
Current bid: US $1,225.00 (Reserve not met)

Martin 00-45 Stauffer Edition

You can tell from here this is going to be an unusual one.

And you were right.

Certainly an eye turner, allthough not quite for me.
Starting bid: US $12,999.00

GIBSON L-5C ACOUSTIC ARCHTOP

Wow. Truely amazing, pure class! I allways liked the L5.

Pure class. Not over the top, just the right amount of inlay.

Fantastic. I've allways wondered, do archtops sound as loud as an acoustic with a soundhole? Those F holes are pretty small, anybody got any experience?
Starting bid: US $6,000.00 (Buy it now $6,500)

1967 GIBSON SOUTHERN JUMBO

Legendery. As played by Sheryl Crowe, and i'm sure plenty more besides. I allmost bought one of those, but something better came along.
[I]Starting bid: US $1,389.00 (Buy it now $1,689)

Well, that's it for now! It's 12:48, so I really should go to bed. We'll see how this goes. Enjoy. smile.gif

Good selection some i like some i dont.I think an acoustic of the week is a great idea but maybe just one a week it would take everyone a week to coment on all them.

As a side note i have a Martin 00-45 half built. Not a real martin just my copy of one.But it hasnt got that horrable headstock.the original ones had slotted headstocks like classicals though im not haveing one of those either. It was my first attempt at building and could have been better. Its still not a bad attempt so far though. But its taken a back seat right now for other work that will be considered part of my course.I will finish it one day though.

Nice stuff. Just the stuff Rick picks for his guitar of the week is both great looking and usually inexpensive.

That is great looking and will play like hell, but the prices are scary. laugh.gif

Actually, just thinking about it, that lowden was an allright price. I know it's expensive, but it's rare that you get a very exciting acoustic for under $1,000.

Aye, not so shabby an idea.

Those excessive inlay works on most the guitars piss me off though.

I'm not a fan of it myself either. Simplicity is the key... What you think of the Lowden?

You asked about the L-5 archtop. I have a 1949 L-50. Similar to the L-5 but the L-50 is not as decorated and pretty. Nice sound, a bit mellower than a Jumbo (which is why they're considered a good jazz-guitar) and not as powerful (but not bad or anything). I also have 1959 Southern Jumbo. Excellent sound (I don't really care for the slightly slimmer neck, although, like Crowe, my daughter loves it). That price for the one shown (if it's in decent condition) is excellent.

Thanks for that john. I've actually seen something a bit like that Southern Jumbo for cheaper, I think I showed you it before. It was a 1969 if I remember, and I think you said something about gibson creating really strong bracing patterns to cut down on warrenty repairs, but it didnt do the projection of the guitar any favours. I think that one went for about $1,300 in the end.

Oh, and Simon - Feck off, wud' ye'? tongue.gif
