the action on my acoustic is really hard.....and i always find myself giving up after 15 minutes because it really hurts my fingers and i go back 2 my electric....do you think i should get a different acoustic? its not just me because my brothers acoustic is so much easier on the fingers and i love playing it......i am tottally neglecting it now because it just kills my fingers 2 play it....but i love ''trying'' to play it......

A lighter gauge set of strings may help a bit,but most of the local shops around here, will set you'r guitar up for around 25 bucks, well worth it!"course we all need a excuse to buy a new guitar..... biggrin.gif

If its a good guitar, it is worth investing in a tune up at a local shop. A tech will adjust your neck, lower the action, check the frets and tuning machines for about $50.oo....using lighter strings will also help.

You can also downtune your guitar DGCFAD
Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.

i would rather just get a new acoustic all together.....but the problem is it was an 18th present for me to learn guitar on.....its a really nice guitar and i would feel bad 2 replace it with something else.....i didnt really know much about guitars when i got it and i couldnt even play a chord...that was a year ago....the body is 2 fat and the action is really high.....what acoustic would you recomend that have smallish bodys and low action??? i doubt i will get something as quality as the acoustic i have now is but atleast i can have fun playing it.....any recomendations for cheap easy 2 play guitars yet still by a descent brand???

If it's a nice guitar and you would feel bad to replace it, don't replace it. Just get a set-up.

I had a simillar problem too when I started playing an acoustic- lots of action. I ditto what the others have said, get it set up properly and use lighter gauge strings until you build up some callouses and finger strength. Then it will be much easier. I still use ultralights (.10) on mine, I don't really have a need to go any higher, as I'm not performing, and I don't want to hurt my fingers that much. smile.gif
