I never have had long nails to play the classical guitar. Always just did it with the skin tip of my fingers. I was wondering, what are the advantages to having long fingernails? Other than the sound of course. You think it would be easier to play chopin with them? didn't think so, still hard.

Also, what are some of your favorite classical songs to play?

Mine has to be Moonlight Sonata. Yellow_Dart gave me a list of songs to take a look at, I haven't really touched it though (except for Greensleeves) and it has a good list of classical songs to learn. Here's the url for it http://alt.venus.co....tab/welcome.htm

I used to play with the tip of my fingers also, recently though I've been letting them grow a bit and its quite hard getting used to, got used to playing with the tip of my fingers after 11 years. lol
As to the length, mine are about 3/16". My playing does sound better, but sometimes I'll hit the string below the one I want, perhaps I should've started growing my nails when I first picked up guitar playing. sad.gif

Wish I could make up my mind! I usually hover between 1/8 and 1/16th inch past my fingertips. But I switch between so many instruments/ playing styles that they're usually worn down to nothing. The longest I've had them is about 1/2 inch but they get inconviant to keep up and you have to keep explaining why you wear them like that.
Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.

Yeah, someone saw that I only had one hand with clipped nails, and though I was a freak or something. I have to explain why I'm growning them out all the time. Oh well.

Classical Guitar, and I keep my fingernails really short, I'm sure long fingernails will help with your playing but I choose not to grow them

the (aesthetic) problem with long nails, is you can only grow long nails on your right hand, and you ought to have short nails on your left. unevenness! asymetry! um, vanity!
