has anyone heard of Sobell guitars? well if you haven't you should check out his stuff. he is very expensive because he only makes few every year, mostly for recording and performing artists like Andy Irvine and others from the Irish Folk scene. My father was lucky enought to get to know him and in 1987 bought an archtop 12 string from him for a mere 900 pounds. nowadays his guitar is worth upwards of 12 grand! so it pays to invest, especially in guitars!!!
the website. Sobell Guitars

Aren' they?? did you check out the woods he uses on the website, some really amazing pieces. He is extremely pricey but the workmanship is ridiculously good. that 12 string I posted is the same exact guitar that Sobell has posted on his website, it was numero uno.

Yes i did.He doesnt really use anything different to any other builder though.People who have been in the game a while genraly know where to find good woods.Half of them probly get it from the same place anyway. There aint too many Brazilian rosewood supliers arond these days. But still some good woods all the same.

One thing i dont like is he doesnt use a traditional slopeing dovetail joint by the looks of things.Well if he does he does it in a bloody weird way because he glues his back on before he cut the slot and if he does do that hes makeing life hard for himself.

Hey Evileye, I was looking at the making of pictures from the Lowden website, it was very interesting to not that the guitar he was making had Walnut back a sides and a redwood top, a combination I have not seen to many times before. (its the combination I have on my Breedlove) amazing bass response.

well I am not sure which method he uses you probably know best but about making life hard for himself, he seems to do a pretty damn good job. I have never played a guitar with more volume than his. All his instruments have a unique Sobell sound to them.

He probly doesnt make life hard for himself as he probly doesnt use a dovetail. From looking at his work it guess he doesnt.I just meant that if he does use a dovetail he does it in a ver f*cked up way in my opinion.I cut the slot for the dovetail after ive glued the top on but he clearly glues the back on before that if he does it atall.
