Hi, I'm a new poster but I've lurking the forum for a while. Anyway I thought I would consult you guitar guys about instrumental acoustic songs since many of you seem to be very well versed in different bands. I don't know how to describe it, but basically I am looking for songs that sound really nice without singing, but not totally fingerstyle (I guess songs with chord progressions that stand on their own).

For example:
"Long Train Runnin" - Doobie Bros.
"The General" - Dispatch
"I Will Survive" - Cake
Acoustic Alchemy, particularly "Playing for Time"
"No Such Thing" - John Mayer
"Thugs Mansion" (acoustic remix) - Tupac

I don't know if there's a way to classify them. Do you know of other songs/artists that are similar to these? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any song stands on it's own without singing if you play it right.

Very true...

Pretty much you can learn anything that has a good "hook" to it...something that in a couple notes people KNOW. Like the begining of Kryptonite(sp)....6-7 notes, but those are all you need for a reconized part of that song...and 90% of the song is built off of that...

But really, as said b4, if you play any song well enough you can have it be stand alone...or do what I do, find a song that has two or three chords you like....and start beating away at them....eventually you'll find a pattern/combination that you will like. Then you can start a new combination...and when your able to link two or three of those together, your looking at writing a song wink.gif

I will say I like his music but his voice gets on my nerves...but anytime I see him playing he makes it look so easy, that I know he is a good player.

ah... so I see. The answer seems so simple, yet I never even thought about it. Thanks for the replies.
