I don't like the sound i'm getting from my Trace-Elliot 1215 amp (look here for specs.. http://www.trace-ell...bass/1215.html).
I was wondering if anyone knew how to get a dirty kind of sound with a bit more gain as it sounds a little flat at the minute.
Do I need an effects pedal or are there settings i can use on the graphic equaliser to change the sound?
Thanks

Does your Trace Elliot amp have tubes or is it solid state?
If it is solid state (transistor) you won't be able to get a satifactory dirty sound without harming your speakers. That's the nature of transistors I'm afraid. They are designed to run clean.
If you have tubes, it's just a simple matter of turning the gain (pre) up much higher than the master (post) volume.

I have the Trace Elliot 1210 bass amp, its basically the same amp as the 1215. Do you have the instruction manual? When I bought the amp, i knew nothing about it, other than the fact its a Trace Elliot! It helped me a lot; particularly about the Valve settings on the 12 band amplifiers. On the Footswitch, turn the valve button on (or by pressing it on the amp!), and then play around with the drive and blend pots on the amp (abone the valve switch on the amp itself). The drive is the intensity of the signal going in to the valves, more drive gives more overdrive. and the blend literally means how much overdrive signal (the valve setting) is mixed with the clean one; turning fully anticlockwise blends no signal from the valves in, and fully clockwise will be just the signal from the valves and none from the transistors!
Try this with the compression settings as well, particularily the high band pot. I have found that you can get a really filthy sound if you lower the low band compression and increase the high band!
I hope this is of help. The Trace Elliot amps are wicked, and has made my effects pedals almost redundant!
