Talkamine usually always gets picked, mainly for it's name...but it is a good guitar.

When it comes to acoustics(esp. in the mid grand range) the G-seires has to be one of the best values.

I'd probably say the Takamine too. Or Alvarez.

My son gave me an Alvarez for a gift (his first "real-gift" when he got a good job so of course I fawned all over it!). I'm more into vintage and especially Gibson, but I found the Alvarez was a pretty nice instrument.....good construction, played well and really nice-looking. I was very pleasantly surprised just how nice it was. I think he paid around $600 or so for the one he gave me.

Sure, Josh. I don't recall off-hand, but when I get home tonight I'll try to remember to take a look.

If you live in Canada, which it appears you do, get a Seagull S6, they are amazing guitars and a new one with electronics can easily be had for $500.

Good luck on deciding your purchase. And yes i do agree that seagull makes a nice guitar too, they are about the same as an alvarez tho.

Josh, it's an AJ-60 N (I assume the N stands for natural finish). It's a light-blonde finish, a fairly large jumbo-sized guitar, with no electronics and no cut-away. The head-stock logo, purfling, a soundhole rosette ring and 12th-fret marker (there are no others on the fretboard) are abalony and mother-of-pearl inlaid. It's about three or four years old now.

I'd choose the takamine over the ibanez. It might look pretty (well, to you), but they should stick to making electrics. The takamine is a nice guitar though. Alverez look good but I haven't had the pleasure to play one yet, same with the seagull.

Seagull and Art and Lutherie(both by Godin) are made in Canada, Art and Luterie use ceder tops which transmit lows and highs with ease, so you get a big sound from a small guitar, Seagull have also seen ceder as the way to go and offer a wider range of models and are a little pricier but as far as I know and you should get them at good prices, you won't pay the import duties that are on all models made outside of Canada. Seagull are now coming with LR Baggs technology on board some of their models, so plugged in, it'll kick balls.

Check the out here.

I was trying to decide whether to get an Alvarez or a Takamine, and somebody slipped a Seagull in there on me........I like it.

The action was a bit high out of the box, but that was easily taken care of. I do find that the cedar top is a bit soft, and you sure need to be careful with it.
