I'm probably FINALY getting a steel string acoustic tomorrow (grading present, only thing is i have to pay my parents back when i get a job dry.gif ). Its a solid cedar top (picture here) its a lot lighter then in that picture and there is a pic gaurd on it. However, on two spots on the guitar it has these black likes about an inch thick near the very bottem of the guitar running verticaly onthe same spots on both sides (its kinda hard to explain plus im very visual but i cant really draw a picture on here tongue.gif ) its about the same color as a knot but its not a circle just a line? It isnt painted on either. anyone ever heard of this before?

It sounds like a natural variation. Not a problem. I believe the stripes could be there because the solid cedar top came from near the bark of the tree- this wood is a little darker and has a bit higher quality actually. How much darker is it?

Yeah, it's just a natural variation in the grain of the cedar. The reason they're identical on both sides of the top is because most solid wood top guitars are "bookmatched". Imagine the wood is a book that you open up. Any markings will appear on both sides since they're "mirrors" of each other. Nothing's wrong with the wood.

Ok cool
Its significantly darker, if you look at a piece of wood with a knot in it it is about the same difference.

I actualy kinda like the looks of it. Gives it character.

Yeah as people said above it's just a variation in the wood. Individuality, ehy?
Nice grain to the wood too. Enjoy.
