QUOTE (voodoogav @ Mar 20 2004, 07:52 AM)

the version with only the guitar was indeed done by eric clapton for the soundtrack to the movie "The Story of Us".

and on the topic of advanced fingerpicking, check out any song by Bruce Cockburn. he is a fantastic fingerpicker
Ovationman
babe im gonna leave you
great song
how about stair way
thats got some nice picking in it
Slowhands12bar
Im thinking "Neon" by John Mayer is pretty intense and hard....maybe jusy me, but I know all the people Ive heard "who can play it" can't come close to matchign it. "Grace is Gone" by DMB is another mellow one with alot of improv
KaZu
QUOTE (voodoogav @ Jun 4 2004, 01:28 PM)
staiway isnt really advanced though is it?

We have been taking it for granted, I can be considered as one, yes
col_chi
why does no one mention new tabs, from the 21st century, only these 'oldies'?
there are also cool modern advanced songs for acoustic guitar like:

incubus - just a phase
silverchair - my favourite thing

ya dude, i am trying to learn "neon" right now, it is pretty darn tough. To play that main line correctly you have QUICKLY incorporate palm slaps. Thats the way john does it. I saw him in a new light after trying to play that song. There is a good tab for it on www.powertabs.net. , if you have power tab editor.

Howabout "Roll Over Vaughn Williams"(Instrumental) by Richard Thompson in DADGAD.

Wideernie
WeWantMoore
I've always wanted to play Cavatina (Theme from DeerHunter). Never got round to it, really nice song.
teaforthetiller
"The Wind" or " The Boy with the Moon & Star On His Head" by Cat Stevens
brethren
Anything by Taylor player Doyle Dykes is advanced. All of these other songs are moderate fingerpicking compared to his. I wanted to sell my guitar after seeing him play.
Sheaster
I dunno if anyone has said this but Signe by Clapton off the unplugged disc it s awesome
ashman420
We used to listen to the Chet Atkins box set and the only song I can remember the name of is "Taste of Honey." Its relatively slow paced but after hearing it I was convinced that he either has 7 fingers on each hand or is very good with his feet. If you've never heard any Chet, I highly recommend it.
station
no one has mentioned him yet so I guess I will.

Jim Croce. A lot of his stuff is finger picked and is quite difficult, in my opinion.

Then again I am new to this acoustic stuff as I just got one two days ago after a year of crappy electric playing and 4 months of intense bass playing.

Specifically look at "a long time ago"
AcousticSmash
corrections to the list that should be removed or edited.

Hotel California is always picked unless u are playing the classical guitar solo from the Hell Freezes over album which is very hard.

Bron Yr Aur Stomp by Led Zeppelin is not a finger picking tune its all done with a pick sheesh how hard is it to tell that page is using a pick go watch the dvd if u dont believe me.

White Summer and Blackmountain Side are both done with a pick..........yes thats right its done with a pick go watch the dvd if u dont like it.

add in Spanish Romance the full hard version by Andre Segovia.

Dust in The Wind finger picking version i think??????not sure

This topic needs organization. Would anyone care if I created a new organized and alphabitized topic to be pinned?

pastie_boy
Fire and Rain (acoustic guitar solo) as it is knownon winmx is amazing. not in it's (fairly advanced) complexity, but in it's mood.

Jazz in the box by doyle dykes is purely amazing. one of those bass in the the thumb tune in the fingers ones.

Jon
magic_dirt
Fleetwood Mac's live acoustic version of Big Love... good stuff
AcousticSmash
Satellite by Dave Matthews Band. Now that is a hard song to fingerpick. at least one guitar part is finger picked i think????

why isnt Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton on the list. Sure its not terribly difficult but it is still hard
circle
The Priest - Joni Mitchell

The Boxer - Paul Simon - (especially the intro)

Funny enough when the man himself messes or changes the song himself because of the difficulty. "Lenny/Man On The Side" is pretty brutal also.
Brichar1087
A really good finger picking song that takes alota practice is Song For George by Eric Johnson in Dropped D tuning or Dusty by Eric Johnson c
