this album is simply brilliant, they kind of got lumped in with grunge but i think they should be labeled as heavy metal. either way layne staley and jerry cantrell do amazing and haunting melodies, jerry cantrell has influenced me amazingly as well as this album on my musical tastes. i think this is actually the first metal album i ever bought.

RIP Layne Staley

Yeah they are a metal band really. Because of Jerry Cantrell they were a metal band. but Layne Stayley was a very unique vocalist so I think that gave them a more unique sound. they came from seattle and they sounded "alternative" so like many other bands in 91-91 they got lumped with grunge.

I don't think they're a grunge band. They sound more like heavy metal than anything.
This is their best album and the best song is "Rooster"

are 'Alice In Chains" the equivalent of something like Marilyn Manson today?

not quite sure what u mean... but alice in chains are nothing like marilyn manson.

yeh, ive never actually heard them. But the bloke looks weird, like marilyn manson. Maybe he got his ideas from alice in chains. I'll download some of their stuff now.

thats alice cooper you're talkin about, not alice in chains. AIC is a band not a person

wtf is that noise?

"Dirt" is without a doubt AIC's finest album. Track 3 (Rain When I Die) has one of the best guitar riffs I ever heard.

I love dirt and everything that AIC put out. I think self titled is also one of their best and most underrated. I
