OK, here's the Official GTU Greatest Guitarist Poll. All the nominees listed were voted by you.
Sadly, I had to leave off Yngwie Malmsteen and Zakk Wylde, who tied in the votes with Duane Allman, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Tony Iommi and B.B. King. I chose to leave off Wylde and Malmsteen simply because of alphabetical order, I thought it the fairest way (I could have left all that tied off but I thought it unfair to leave all 7 guitarists off the list).

Honourable mentions to the nominees who didn't make it:
Yngwie Malmsteen --- Zakk Wylde --- John Frusciante --- Dave Murray --- Alexi Laiho --- Gary Moore --- Carlos Santana --- Neil Young --- Brian May --- Dimebag Darrell --- George Harrison --- Mark Knopfler --- Jason Becker --- Frank Zappa --- Buddy Guy --- Tommy Emmanuel --- Adrian Smith --- Joe Perry --- Tom Morello --- Dave Mustaine --- Al Di Meola --- Ritchie Blackmore --- Matt Bellamy --- Paul Gilbert --- Robert Johnson --- James Hetfield --- Chuck Berry --- Steve Howe --- Django Reinhardt --- Trey Anastasio --- Michael Romeo --- Dickey Betts --- Paul Kossoff --- Leslie West --- Robben Ford --- Chuck Shuldinger --- Curt Kirkwood --- Adam Jones --- Gary Rossington --- Warren Hayes --- Albert King --- Pete Townshend --- Bozley --- Brian Sutton --- John Fogerty --- Alex Lifeson --- Omar Rodriguez-Lopez --- Chris Cheney --- C.C. Deville --- Steve Morse --- Allan Holdsworth --- Andre Olbrich --- John Cippolina --- Son House --- Donald Roeser --- Mikael Akerfeldt --- Trey Spruance --- Billy Gibbons --- Kurt Cobain --- Steve Kaufman --- Peter Frampton --- Carlos Santana --- Nick Drake --- Chris Carrabba --- Pete Townshend --- Robben Ford --- Jeff Buckley --- Paul Weller --- Iain Harvey --- Steve Craddock --- Jeff Hanneman --- Buckethead --- Pat Methany --- Chet Atkins --- Russell Malone --- Joe Pass --- John Schaffer --- John Denver --- Nigel Tufnel --- Otto the Bus Driver --- Hank Hill of King of the Hill ---Brandon Lee’s character in The Crow --- Steve Marriott --- Paul Kossof --- Skip James --- The Edge --- Andy Fairweather-Low --- Andres Segovia --- Tim Mahoney

[DISCLAIMER] This is not an end-all poll. The guitarist who wins this poll is in no way 'The Greatest Guitarist Ever', but merely a guitarist which has garnered much respect for his technical and musical ability, and in many peoples opinions is the best guitarist. Opinions may differ, but this was the fairest way that such a poll could be run. As you can see, many guitarists were excluded from this poll whom some people believed should have won the title 'Greatest Guitarist Ever', and there are thousands of other guitarists who didn't get a mention at all who could well be eligible for the title. And on top of that there are session musicians and undiscovered talents who may well be better than any signed, famous guitarist around.
As such, take the results of this poll with a grain of salt. The winner may or may not be The Greatest Guitarist Ever, it's all opinion.

With all that out of the way, let the voting begin smile.gif

P.S: Could one of the mods please 'sticky' this post?

Bah, only one of my choices got up there. I had to vote for Joe Satriani because of that, but I think John Frusciante deserves a lot of respect. He's one of the best modern day guitarists around in the alternative genre.

No Buddy sad.gif

It was out of SRV, Rory or the King for me, but I went with SRV because he's closest to Buddy.

To mojomaniac: Do you still have the statistic of this? I think it would be very interesting to see how many votes each guitairist got, who came on top, who made it last, etc... If you do post them here. I would like to see that and see how good my choices did wink.gif

Hmmm, I think I might just jump out of the Satch ship and hop aboard the Jimmy bandwagon; one of them will win. ( SRV is an honorary Jimmy )
