I recently went to the Polar Express movie starring Tom Hanks, anyway one of his chacacters was a hobo who played a most curious instrument while riding on top of the train, it looked like a Mandolin kind of but it had a crank handle like what an organgrinder uses on the end where the strap button goes that he turned to play it, but it also looked like he was fretting it at the same time, does anyone know what this instrument is?

It is animated but I think it's got to be a real instrument, probably somthing from the 1930's or somthing.

I haven't seen the movie, but from your description, that sounds like a hurdy-gurdy. I'm totally serious.
