This guy named Michael Newdow has been sueing the government for every religious thing since 2001. He's sued to try and remove the inaugural prayer from bushes first inauguration in 2001, tried to remove the words "under god" from the pledge of allegiance, and I believe it was him that wanted the words "in god we trust" to be removed from currency. Why is he doing this? Because he feels "harmed." What a load of BS.

Why do some athiests want to abolish religion? What is there reasoning? Somebody has to step in the US and say that RELIGION IS NOT BAD, it is good, and it has been proven that people with faith in almost any religion, are less prone to drugs, alcohol, and poverty. Of course all the world has degenerate lowlifes that are lazy, but I don't see any athiest organizations trying to make this world a better place. I don't see any mission centers with athiests feeding the homeless or helping them get back on their feet.

discuss......debate.....but play nicely...

i am a Christian yet i would have the exact same answer if i was not a Christian

whats the big deal about this? Its the way our forefathers established the country so might as well leave it but i hate it when Christians get really pissed off over things like this too, by doing that we just make the world hate us more, i think everyone just just stop crying about this whole thing, its like when two 5 year old kids fight over who gets to ride in the front seat

Why does the name need to be there? Do you need to be reminded everyday that you trust "God"?

###### you.

Hows that for nice?

here's why. Because or nation is not a theorocracy, because we have a thing called seperation of church and state, because we don't like you spinless little ######s who thing god and jesus is great coming into our lives and annoying us, thats why.

The whole thing with the currency, yea, that didn't happen till the 50's when the government wanted to seperate america from the "godless commies" same with the pledge, so yea, when your faith is degraded because you are associated with 'godless commies' and you are forced to accept something that you don't believe, that causes harm, so why don't you all go to your ######ing churches and stay there and pray to your all might god who realy doesn't give a crap, and to a man, who guess what? He wasn't realy the son of god.

Test, studies? perfomed by whom? Churches and relgious groups? religion has nothing to do with morals, all relgion does is cause small-mindness, right-wigness, wars, genocide and overall stupidity.

Micheal Newdow is a very nice man with an excellent case. First off, he has only made two challenges, the placement of the words under god in the pledge of allegience and more recently to the inagural prayer. His first suit against the pledge came because of his daughter. When she was a kindergarten student she suddenly started talking about god, he asked her where she learned about god and she said she first learned from the pledge of allegience. Now, how would you feel if you were the local pastor and your knidergardner came home from school talking about she had learned there was no such thing as god from a state mandated oath she had to take every day? There's more to this case than just that, lets learn a little about the pledge. First off, the pledge was written by and lobbied for by the american branch of the national socialist party which later became more widely known as the nazi party. The original salute to the flag was to raise you right arm up at a 45 degree angle with a flat palm which faced down. This salute was changed in the late 30's because it was exactly the same as the nazi salute.
Secondly, the words "under god" were not even in the pledge until some 50 years after it had been in use. It was changed by senator Joe McCarthy, one of the few senetors in history to be officialy censured. His reason for adding the words was part of his anti-commie platform.
Third, we have a law in the constitution seperating church and state.

Mr. Newdow's case against the pledge went all the way to the supreme court where most legal experts predicted it would win, unfortunently, a small technicality forced the court to dismiss it. He has corrected the mistake and will be presenting his case once again in the near future.
I fully support his case against the pledge, taking a pledge in the first case is blatent nationalism and isn't a healthy thing for people to do, it breeds contempt for other countries and blind pride for your own. On the other hand, I don't know why he gives a sh*t about an inaugural prayer, that's the president's personal choice and considering how badly he has f*cked up the entire world he should be on his knees praying for someone to fix his mess.

I was forced everyday in school to not participate in the Pledge of Allegience with the rest of the class because it does not apply to me, I do not believe that we are under god. This pledge is suppose to bind us together as a nation, yet it specificaly alienates many, many Americans, and that's not right.

I am an Atheist, but i respect the right for everyone to belive in whatever they want to belive in, but it does not make thaem any better or worse than me. What gets me, is the harm that is done in the name of religion. And yet i have been told by so called christians that i am gonna burn in hell for being an atheist, yet i am basicley a good person, and lead an honest life.

I agree with you dylancnc. And I don't think we should even have to pledge our allegience to a flag or the country. It always reminds me of some nazi bullsh*t.

You Christians think you're so oppressed. Like everything else, you don't have f*cking clue.

Religious discussions on GTU make me more than just frustrated. Most, if not all, comments made are beyond ignorant, especially by athiests who seem to think they have any ######ing clue what the hell they're talking about. Just the fact that such people go through their lives thinking things like "Christians don't have a f*ucking clue" makes me flat out angry. And yes, I'm looking at you springwaffle. Dylancnc, you're no better.

I'm not atheist. I don't get the Christians that think it was horrible they took prayer out of school. Why should we have to pray to/worship your God? If it said "In Allah We Trust" you'd sh*t a brick.

Precisely.

Atheists, agnostics or people of other faiths should not have to pledge allegiance to God and stuff. There's no need for a President to say "God bless you" in speeches, or make references to God on currency. There's just no need.

I ticked atheist/nihilist. God is dead. Deal with it.

What's even more f*cked up is that they say "The forefathers were Christian. They wanted it this way." The forefathers were Masons. A majority of them anyways. Mason's worship Hiram Abif and their own wangs. They swear oaths to Allah and other God's. It's all a bullsh*t.

If you don't belive in God what is the difference whether or not the currency says "In God We Trust". If you think all of us Christians are so stupid, just have a chuckle and let us believe what we want. It's not like "In God We Trust" is somehow going to suck you in to Christianity.

What if it said "In Allah We Trust" or "In Satan We Trust"?

It's not going to suck you into those religions but I'm sure you'd be as outraged as we are.

Dylan, for future reference, I'd like to politely ask you to stop using such derogatory statements about Christians and their establishments. You shouldn't put down an entire group just because you don't want to be a part of it. Gracie.
