What's the proper way to do that little drum fill that people do after a dumb joke?

Haha, this has to be the first time I've ever seen that question. I'd be interested to know how to do that too.

Aye, that works. I've also had it done with a 9-stroke roll on the snare to crash.

i'm not up with the drummer lingo, i'm not a drummer either

so to explain above the way i play it is 2 snare hits (16th notes) and 1 on a small tom (8th note) then hit the crash

so basically the same as britrit only with the tom inbetween the snare and crash

Also as three hits...

Ba-Da-Dum... crash.

It is neither crash nor ride... You can get small crash cymbals which are 6" to 10" in size called splash cymbals. The actual pattern can vary, but i generally use two snare hits and then the splash. Alternatively (for a very bad joke) you can do two snare hits and then the bottom tom for an anti-climax...

I think it's a choked crash. a splash doesent have enough presence...

Whoa! A Rimshot is what you get when you hit the snare drum so that the stick hits the rim at the same time as the tip hits the middle of the skin. It can also be achieved by resting one stick in the centre of the drum and hitting it about half way up with the other one...

That'd work too, but I'd still go with a splash... It's the main reason why I bought one! biggrin.gif

Sorry guys, there were some close ones but the proper way to accentuate a joke told by the MC, is .... snare, snare, kick/crash,
the whole three hit thing is a myth and is only used in verbal expressions.
