Apparently the mkII has better sound quality, and I've heard very good things about it, although never tried it myself.

The 505 II has better sound quality and quite a few extra settings and patches. It can store about 20 more patches than the 505 mk1 it also has more effects, is more compact and a hell of a lot easier to use!

i have the mark 2 and its fine!
it was the first fx i got and i am not disapointed at all.
for a starter for bedroom use its fine but it would/could never be used on stage or anything. there are son many fx that you will only use about 5 of them (and i mean it!) its good cos you can change and modify all the fx. the tuner is also very good as you can tune your guitar to all different tunings which i couldnt do on my normal tuner.
Downside...you have to flick through so many fx that your foot hurts!. i would recommend the mark 2 as its way better than the first. i dont know what the exchange rate it between and canadian $ but you can get a new one here for about 65 and a second hand one eveb cheaper so try ebay or something.
when you do get it then you can change the order of all the fx so that you can have all the ones that you use next to each other which saves having to flick through them all.
its great for taking to a mates house as there is only one box to take.
If i were to go back, i would still get it but now i think that i need individule fx instead
but its still a great so dont get put off by people saying its crap cos i dont have the money to get 4 seperates!

If you're going to buy a zoom, go for the 606. It's basically a 505II, but with a built in expression pedal so you can have pedal wah and not the cr*ppy auto-wah that you are limited to with the 505 and 505mkII. You can get them for less than 100.

Get the 707...you get a lot more for just a few pounds (or dollars, or Euros, or whatever) extra.

well yeah
i agree about this dude
i got that unit but for my bass
its the 21st unit to be produced
i am a proud owner of it
it caused me no problems so far
but the 606 unit is fun, its exactly the same unit but with an expression pedal attached to it

If anyone owns a 606, you might want to look at my recent post describing how you can modify the circuit (well, remove two components) to improve the high-end tone:

Locking this thread, beacause A: it's old, and B: it suddenly seems to be attracting spambots.

Posting in this thread, because A: I can, and B: I challenge any spambot to a knife fight.
